maintenance question

:
Mazda CX-5 GT 2017
I took my car to dealership for maintenance today & needed inspection sticker. Its 2017 11 months old with 4,000 miles.

Noticed when they reset my dash maintenance alert set it to 5 months or 5,000 miles. REALLY? In 5 months it will only have 2,000 more miles on it. Is this really necessary or are they trying to make a few extra $$

Thanks

Change it. Why go in at 4k? I changed my oil first at 1k and then 10k thereafter, per the flexible schedule.

Thanks will reset. Only reason I ask is have heard Moly breaks down over time. I have a hard time reconciling maintience every 5 months if Ive only put 2k mileage. I drive it every day but Im not a road warrior.

I insist on Mazda Moly. The factory oil remained for 6K miles as it has extra additives for the newer engine.
After that it is 12K and 20K. Next up will be 28K miles. I go in every 10 months.
Once the engine settles down and does not generate a lot of gunk a 10K mile interval might work too.

Up to 10,000-mile or 12-month flexible oil change interval whichever comes first is for 2016(.5) CX-5. For OP's 2017 gen-2 CX-5 Mazda has changed to up to 7,500 miles and 12 months whichever comes first on flexible schedule for oil change.

The moly does not break down. That’s false info.

I'm boosting intervals from 6k to 7.5k.....and will start going to go 10k/10months. Today's quality 0-weight oils last longer.

Meh. I'd change it yearly, or by mileage. I'd use 5K, since it seems you don't drive much. 7500 is what I use because I drive.
