CX-5 2017 Radar Detector install.

:
CX-5 2017 GT AWD
Anybody who would like to share pics of their hardwired radar detector. Where you still able to close the fuse box cover?

Care to share how you did it with the CX-5. Too chicken to pry the RVM housing in the CX5 with all those forward collision sensors.

its really easy, you dont have to remove any trim or panels. all you have to do is pull the plug out of the homelink mirror (there is a tab on the top you have to depress to release it), insert the pins from the new power harness, and zip tie the new harness to the existing homelink harness. the pins its installed in are only hot with the ignition on so no worries of draining the battery.

If the electrical connector is exposed on back of Homelink mirror you can use an Invisicord or alternative as listed above.

No actual tap of the wire. The pins slide next to the wire connectors. You can hook up in like a a couple minutes max.

My CX and G were easy... my GX is harder because they hid all the wires under cover plates.

Which wire goes to which hole. Have not tried this route before. I hardwired my RD at the inside fusebox if my RAV4 before. This is a better route but just want to make sure where i tap those wires to which hole.

Zoom in on the pic i posted, looking at the end the wires enter, red goes on the far left and the black in the middle.

Yeah the RVM makes it super easy to power your RD. It's hard to go wrong with a MirrorTap.

If you'd like to tap into your fuse box as well, something that's more common if you're also going to install a dashcam too, you're installing a V1 along with its Bluetooth module, or you don't have a powered RVM, I have a radar detector hardwire tutorial you can check out.

and not to get OT, but are you guys not having issues with your radar detectors falsing to laser? I drive a Miata, not a CX-5, but I get a lot of laser false alerts from CX-5 when I pass by them.

Interesting... some systems must be laser based. Back in the day the radar cruise on my G35x was accused of sending out false positives. No idea if this is still true today. I haven't used a radar detector in probably 20 years now.

Woot woot VORTEX in the house, lol. No laser falses on my side. All my sensors are on. Had the R3 on the lower, middle and top part of the RVM and no K band or laser falsing. I already had the invisicord installed but at this time still using the cig cord. I need the tinting on sunstrip first before installing the RD up on the WS behind the tint. I might stick the dashcam on the CX5 front camera housing.

Yeah they do, depending on the trim. They're a PITA when running something like a V1 with a sensitive laser detector built in.

lol hey. :D

Does your CX-5 have the laser whatever it is in CX-5's that seem to cause falses? Laser assisted cruise control or something.

No problem with laser or BSM falsing so far. I still have to install my 9200BT on the rear for the ghetto arrows. THat one is my concern for BSM falsing. Hopefully I might try this weekend...

I had my Uniden R3 for more than a year already and have not come any issues or falsing from my own car. Now comes the Uniden R7 and trouble comes, lol. Yes it falses like a disco party due to the rear horn. No matter what setting you use it will false. The only option you have is to disable K band. Unfortunately that won't fly since I have legit K band threats on my area. I am waiting for some stickies to attenuate the rear horn. For the mean time since I really like the R7 I just set up the R7 with Kband disabled while the R3 with Ka band disabled. Set them apart and hoping with bands disabled I would have lesser chance of interference, I hope so.

I got the R7 on release day as well and was immediately frustrated with the constant rear falsing.
I did NOT want to disable K band.

What solved the issue for me is updating the firmware ... yes it was out-of-date on release day!

Between updated firmware and running it in highway mode only when on long freeway runs, falses are now few and far between!

Yes, and K-band from Cadillacs and Hondas. It's a little unfair to call them false alarms, because the detector is reporting the presence of a signal that is really there. SCBS pulses a laser signal, even when turned "off" in the Infotainment system and drives my V1 mad. Gorilla tape restores sanity.

In LA, there is not much K band left, maybe in two cities(Long Beach and Azusa), so I have K band disabled. A couple years ago ,I have got a ticket in Azusa, but it was laser.
Sometimes, I'm getting false alerts, when I pull into the parking lot(facing windows) at my workplace, or in my driveway facing garage door. I can't explain that. Only sometimes, not always.

Finally solved the Uniden R7 issue. I have it on Advanced. K band 50%/ K wide/ K filter on/ MRCD off. I installed an attenuator for the rear horn.
