Its a well thought out argument but it never almost never pans out that way. Reason is - it does consider the factors that will contribute - but does not consider all factors (that would be very difficult). Once you do not consider all factors and add an appropriate weight to each one - then the outcome can swing heavily.

A 500-600 dollar impact per car might kill it for the value buyers but the enthusiasts will still buy them.
 
I actually had this discussion with a mechanic at work today talking about how it will affect the car industry overall and how reliant we are on car parts from China and other countries. Makes me happier I also opted for the 10 year warranty since it will be sure to drive prices up.
