Parking lot - accident. Need help

I put my car in slot, NJ rail parking lot. Come back home and passenger side headlight - broken. Underneath them cracked bumper cover with the retainers holding it pushed out from the cowl. The inner wheel (black plastic trim) pushed forward. Lot of scratches going down to fog light area.

Any card left - no. Police, I did not call and nor my insurance as don't want anything on record. I parked with reversing in and someone must have bumped me when trying to slide into the side slot. Before anyone asks - no, no camera around the parking lot.

What are my options here in terms of repairing using own funds? Med center quoted me +$700 for headlight. No option but to replace it.

Bumper cover - that's the part I am debating.

Approx. $250 for a primed black new bumper - shipped. But paint in any NJ auto body I am thinking might cost me an arm and a leg. Any leads on a ballpark estimate how much it might cost (paint match)?

Alternatively, found a site which can paint match it and ship it to me for $550. Is it worth it?

Finally, I am hearing + and - regarding bumper repair: DIY. The crack's about 6 inches leading away from headlight area with a serious dent and lot of scratches. I have NEVER done bumper repair. My wife suggesting - straighten out the bumper from inside, mount the cracked bumper back and then cover the scratched area with a good rubber mat (Home Depot) cutting it decoratively like with some curves, etc. and do the same both sides. It'll look like a custom job and hide the cracks/scratches. Not sure - any thoughts on this?

Try calling QuirkParts to see what they'd quote you for the headlight and bumper. I've found they are cheaper than other options out there. http://www.quirkparts.com

Thanks man. Had checked it. Bumper cover = yes, headlight = nada. They don't go up to 2016 and I know 2015 won't work for me, for headlights. I believe 2016 and 2015 bumper covers are same though.

I'm sure that NJ transit has security cameras. Check with the station. Maybe you can ID the driver or their car.

Nope. Requires a Police report. Also, I called a few folks I know. All confirmed for parking lot accidents its next to impossible to get the camera feeds. They are solely for security purposes, not accidents. Even insurance companies do not get access. And I physically looked around. Did not find ANY cameras in the parking lot.

I wonder if front radar sensor will need to be re-calibrated if you remove everything off front end? I know any work on similar unit on my Infiniti requires calibration by dealer.

s***. Was thinking I need not remove the grill which hosts the emblem which has the sensor. That'll be a bummer.

Try giving them a call instead of looking on the site. I saw it didn't go up to 2016 online, but they are an actual Mazda dealer so they can get the 2016 parts.

?

Don't assume a new bumper from a good body shop is cost proHibitive. Get a couple of quotes. I've had bumber replaced for $500, although this was over 10 years ago. I'm in the metro NY area.

Report it, you're not at fault. Or is it that you don't have insurance? How much is your deductible if you do have insurance?

I'm sure on a 2016 he has insurance. Probably doesn't want to involve insurance co. due to the prohibitively high insurance premiums in the great socialist state of Jersey.
Hopefully the insurance company will cover and not hold it against him, it should probably be covered under comprehensive. Call your agent on the 800 number and ask.

Unless OP has some crazy high deductible getting insurance to handle this completely should be a no brainer.

A new LED highlight is $1,300 alone... then add in labor. Then the bumper, and more labor, then more bits of broken pieces. Maybe some other sensors for the AWD system?

I'd at least investigate a claim.... its not like you have to make one simply for looking into it.

+1 above. In addition, I would wait for a week or so and then check other vehicles for matching paint and damage=you may luck out. Ed

This is the cheapest place I have found anywhere for new OEM parts. http://www.newautoparts.com/ I cheaped out by finding a used OEM bumper cover the same color as my vehicle with just minor scratches that could be buffed out was WAY cheaper than even an aftermarket cover in new. I backed into someone and got it fixed for parts plus $50 labor total cost of $275.08 I only needed a rear bumper cover and a reflector. Shipping is what kills ya on the big parts. It's just ridiculous. If you can get a bumper cover shipped for $100 bucks you are probably doing good. My cover was $80 with $100 shipping from ebay

Comprehensive doesn't cover this kind of claim. Even if it's a hit and run, it's a collision. My SO had a similar experience last week w/ her Mazda 3 and our collision coverage takes care of it. Rear bumper broken, rear light broken and quarter panel has a dent. We'll eat the $500 deductible but the repairs have been estimated at $1,700 by the insurance.

The insurance will cover it. It will be comprehensive probably because no one was in the car. Either way my deductibles are low. The main reason why I don't want to involve insurance is the hit in VIN number and CARFAX. I recently sold my used car. Immediate hit is about 15% with dealers, potential private parties. Just 1 record that car has been in an accident is enough. The CARFAX reports don't show much. A potential buyer has no easy way to know it it was T boned or just a bumper scratch. It will say front collision, etc. I don't intend to keep the car beyond 5 years. Finally, doesn't matter these days whether you are at fault or no. Try switching insurance. They ask no matter whether your fault or not how many claims , accidents happened in the last 5 years

No, if it's within 1500$ I would rather foot the bill. My deductible is $250.
