In trouble shooting an unrelated problem, I clipped open the glove box and behind it there's this white AUX connector. I am wondering what's that for? Could it be connector for glove box light? Don't confuse with the remote start connector, that's towards the driver side. I know many here have the schematics but I am not good at reading them, especially wiring part. Thus - asking.

I have wanted a glove box light since I bought the car. I will add one. Sooner or later.

This can be done if the CX-5 owners in Europe or Japan can find the part numbers related to glove compartment light as their CX-5 does offer it on the higher trims. Once we have part numbers, we can order them through Japanparts.com and they shouldn't be too expensive.

AUX connection where? Just looked through my glove box and nothing. There was a piece of plastic on the left side as if it was covering something up, but I don't see an AUX hookup.

No. When in video, the front view and he's taking out the cabin filter ....
There's the 2nd. trim right above the cabin filter casing and looks quite similar to the cabin filter facade. Above it, you'll see a black little protrusion right in the middle. In my case, it's white. It's a connector. Empty.

That would be cool. I don't have to design and build my own.

The protrusion that you talk about, at least in my vehicle, seems to be a hinge, not a connector.

Perhaps you are talking about the white connecter that I have circled in this photo? It is definitely wired in to the wiring harness, but it is unused and taped in place. I pointed out the cabin air filter as a frame of reference. Didn't have my meter with so I can't say if it's hot or not. Anybody know what it is for? Anybody not in North America, if you have a light for this dash storage compartment (called a "glove box" in the US or sometimes a "cubby hole"), can you see if it is plugged into this connector? That would be sweet if it is the connector for a light.

That looks like the jack that you plug the mazda remote start module into...

When I installed the glove box light in our CX-5 I tested this connector. Not sure what it is for but it does not test as a glove box light would. IIRC, one wire was constant and the other was ground, did not test with illumination. Unless the factory glove box light will illuminate at any time the glove box is opened which would not be how I've ever seen one wired before.

IIRC the glove box light on my older cars was wired that way, the light would come on when ever the door was opened. Did not matter if the ignition was on or not.
What did you use the for the glove box light?

Do you mind to tell us more in detail on how did you do your glove compartment light? If you can write a HOW-TO thread that'd be great! I noticed the glove box light in Mazda6 is illuminated when the headlights are on, hence there is no additional push-in switch to control the light like most other glove box light I'd seen.

I have self installed the remote start in my friend's car CX5 and that's the ploug for the remote start.

Here is the link to my post in the lighting section:

Just used a pin switch to provide ground when the glove box is opened and the illumination circuit at the radio to only provide light while the lights are on.
