Anybody has tried Mazda HUD on the CX5?

I'm wondering, if this is possible.

I'd bet it is, but it may be more work than expected. The main stumbling blocks I can see are:
mounting - May be as simple as adhesive but still.
wiring - this needs to be connected to the infotainment system at least (assuming it get's it's data from there), if not directly to the dashboard or OBDII.

Otherwise, I think it's doable. Is there a part number for just the HUD unit itself? If so then it may be very simple.

I have this (in my old car) and I really, really love it: https://www.kickstarter.com/project...our-eyes-on-the-road-while-dri?ref=nav_search. I was one of their beta testers, sometime back. And the best part: it's only $49.
Interesting, got any photos of it in action?

Most of the people in that thread (except the OP) seemed to love the system?

EDIT:
Decided to look it up on the parts fische: http://www.shopmazdaparts.com/mazda...ts-and-gauges-scat/?part_name=head-up-display

The unit looks to be pretty big, and sit down in the cowl...and costs an "arm" @$524. This would be cool but I think there are likely easier/cheaper ways to achieve a similar result.

That looks like an awesome product for only $49. It would come in really handy with my hour each way commute.
Only thing is I can't see someone using it all the time unless the phone was plugged in and charging. I played around with the Hudway app I think a while back, and just remember the phone getting pretty hot and battery going down quickly.

Maybe if I ran a cord up and behind the dash exiting near the base of the windshield to keep it mostly hidden it might work out well.

Yep, that's what I do. I use the USB 5V, route it front of the steering wheel, up the side door and into the product. The best part is: the apps work great.

Do you know if any music apps work with the HUD. I read on the site that it needs to be displayed from the device backwards, since it is a reflection you are seeing. On my commute this morning I was thinking about how often I look down from the road to my phone to play a different song or podcast. Then I looked strait ahead but down at where that HUD product would sit and can really still see most of the road and traffic. Plan to get one regardless, but a music app would be awesome.

Type HUD in a ebay search and you will find lots of choices many use OBD 2 for input so they can stay put and don't need your phone.

I already have one. It's a mirror window tinted film on a small piece of plexi, assembled into a box type thing, with my old cellphone under it. Simple HUD app, and usb plug. Portable, and works just like the CX-3, sans navigation. However, I KNOW there are simple HUD nav apps out there, but I don't need that.

WIP though, right now it's just taped up cardboard ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgfIiAq7CZs

But, it does work pretty good. Slight lag in refreshing the speed, but That should not be an issue.
