So yes, you're right about the 30 min video that follows:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NXrmYB7L0Y
Lotta' good stuff. One clarifying point for me was I was never sure what the relationship between the three SkyActiv chassis was. This video makes it very clear that the CX-5 and the Mazda 6 use essentialy the same chassis while the 3 uses a smaller one. And now of course the 2 and the CX-3 share a third platform.
No. Why?Have you ever done autox in the z4?
The SkyActiv suite of technology was developed for the entire Mazda product line, not just the CX-5. As such, the cost of development is spread over several different vehicles and was largely driven by government regulation. Like everyone else, if they wanted to continue selling in the lucrative North American market, they had to do something to get their fuel mileage up dramatically.I remain amazed at the R&D dumped into an econo-CUV. I just had no idea it mattered so much until I bought one and saw how bloody dog-eat-dog this market segment was, or how large it was.
The current model Z4 (E89) that we own has evolved from a feisty little Miata competitor (Z3) to ever-larger GT cars (E85-E89). Some folks autocross and track the later models, but for us it's my wife's stylish daily driver. Our days of autox'ing our previous MX-5s are behind us.
