Clunk in rear

I experience clunk noise from rear when going over bumps (not all) . I am guessing that it comes from the spare wheel plastic cover.

This happens on uneven surface but not necessarily all bumps.

What I've noticed is that when I recline the middle portion of rear seat only, the clunk never occurs.

Can anyone suggest what to do to remedy this besides the middle portion recline?

When you say "recline", do you mean move it rearward toward the cargo area or fold it forward as if you were loading something long?

Have you checked if anything is getting loose inside the spare-tire well area? You have two CX-5's, is this only happen to one of them?

^When I fold forward - the noise does not happen.

Yes, I've checked the area over dozen of times.

I was getting a clunk going over speed bumps a bit too fast. Turns out it was the hitch moving in the receiver. I shimmed the hitch with a couple of strips of sheet metal... end of problem.

I had a clunk in the passenger seat the other day, but then I dropped her off and everything was fine.(boom05)
