CEL and Code P0571 ("Brake Switch A Circuit")

My wife's 2014 CX-5 lit up its CEL for a while the other day. She checked the obvious things (gas cap, washer level) and a while later it went out again and has stayed out since.

I borrowed an ODB2 scanner and checked it just now, and it showed a code P0571 which apparently is something to do with the brake light switch or cruise-control cancel mechanism, although the brake lights appear to work just fine (on and off when they should) and the cruise-control still cancels properly.

She's a little worried (I probably shouldn't have mentioned that it was something to do with the brakes!) but unless the CEL comes on again I'm inclined to write it off as a glitch and not suffer the hassle of a dealer visit.

Thoughts?

Ditto. BTW, I kinda' doubt a low washer level would trigger a CEL.

Yes, but a dealer visit means half-a-day off work for one of us. Ignoring it for now, unless the light comes on again, but will keep an eye on the brake lights and cruise-control behavior.
