2016 CX-5 Builder Available..... sort of

Thanks for posting. I'm liking the GT with tech package. We still have some time until we pull the trigger but I hope my dealers start getting some fwd versions of the GT. I don't understand the obsession with awd on a vehicle like this. A set of snow tires would be all you really need.

Depends on where you live inlinev, depends on where you live.

When it comes to snow tires or 4 by 4 Id always go snow tires. Remember, it's your tires that provide grip, not a set of second driving axles. Keep in mind the cx5 awd is a mild system and cannot send 100% of the power to the rear wheels.

Snow tires and awd would be the ultimate package but most consumers are under the assumption their awd vehicle is superior because it's awd. Again, grip doesn't come from the axle.

True about adhesion to the road with snow tires but propulsion up a deep snow covered road is another matter. That non-powered axle isn't doing anything to help the effort.

Sure. Assuming the propulsion needed by the rear axle doesn't exceed the limit of the rear axle on the cx5 (limited to 50% torque). This vehicle isn't bulit for off roading, or deep snow. Keep in mind an awd vehicle does nothingunder braking, when compared to a fwd car. A situation where a set of snow tires will outshine every time (not to mention superior lateral grip).

But I understand the merit of awd, dont get me wrong. But I'd wager a majority of owners of awd vehicles have a false sense of over confidence in their vehicle. I've lost count the number of people who say, well I have awd, when talking about winter driving. If you watched the last video I posted it was a fwd Mini Cooper vs an Impreza. Aside from off the line acceleration the subaru couldn't keep up with its all season tires.
