KEY light illuminated red on dash, door handle buttons not working

Looking for help. A red KEY light is now on and my door handle and lift gate keyless entry buttons aren't working. The remote smart cards work fine and smart card batteries have been replaced. Any help on where problem is?

Can you start the engine?
If yes, likely one of the sensor is broken.
Most likely the one under the rear bumper because it is external while other ones are internal.
Do a visual inspection. It is about 1x6 inch long with a cable going into it.
A trip to the dealer is probably unavoidable.
