Blacked-Out Exterior Chrome - No Plastidip

Hey, has anyone blacked out their exterior chrome such as the emblems and grill bezel?

I'm looking for feedback on the results on paintwork, not plastidip. Not a fan of the results after Chicago winters beatings. (salt, snow, etc)

Just fyi, I plasti-dipped an entire chrome bumper on my Tacoma and it lasted through 3 New England winters without a single imperfection before I sold it.

As for paint, I have painted my CX-5 emblems and they came out fine, but I never did put them back on (I had some custom decals made instead).

Total blackout

Swedish CX-5 project!

You can also get a satin/matt black flexible tape from some auto parts stores that is designed just for blacking out chrome. I used some on a previous car and it went on nicely and lasted years (plus you can pull it off if you change your mind).

Ok, here, did a search and found it at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

I don't do tape, but thanks. (I'm lol'ed)

Hey, don't knock it 'til you try it!

Seriously, it works very well, and look 'factory black' when applied.

This is the only photo I could find (insurance photo for the idiot that scraped my bumper) but gives you an example:

This is a web comparison photo to show the original brightwork:
