Undercarriage rock?

Was driving my AWD GT and went over some rocks/wet asphalt today and heard a very loud "boing" sound. Like a spring noise. Obviously a rock hit something...I never heard that kind of noise in my old M3, or any other vehicle. If had lots of undercarriage/rock noise in my years of driving...but this was diff...and very loud.....I'm wondering what might have gotten hit or what would have made a sound like that.......I do have a bud who had a rock hit his AC compressor...killing it. And Chev wouldn't cover it (2 week old veh)....any help is appreciated.

Raise the vehicle and take a look.

Your E30, E36, or E46 don't have undercarriage aero claddings. This does. Raise it and take a look to see if you bang up the cladding, exhaust, or exhaust shield.
