Show us your Tint...

New Jersey
Hello,

I have a new 14 liquid GT. Enkei wheels showed up today, 4" tips are in the mail, roof rack is getting installed next week, last thing we need is tint. So if you would be so kind, show us your tint. Please include all details: % and $. I'd also like to know if you over did it and struggle at night.

Thanks,

Rick

3M ceramic tint all around 32% on front 2 windows, clear on windshield & back 7 windows. $500 & installer came to my house to install.
The ceramic tint keeps most of the heat out. I don't use a sun shade on the windshield & interior parts are not hot to touch in the summer.

Bad pic, but 20% fronts to match factory rear.

This was after a typical sprucing up with Poorboys EX-P sealant topped with Natty's white. Definitely not my favorite combo, but I need to use it up some how. Needs claying and glazing as well. Looks good none the less, but not the best.

I kinda wished I got 20% too, but legal is 35% all around here in IL & I didn't want my wife getting pulled over as she's the primary driver. Even though the tint is technically illegal bc the back is 22%, but as long as they can see your silhouette, you'll be fine. Only time it looks a lot lighter is when I look at an angle that looks through the windshield. I had 32/22 on my Toyota Matrix & it didn't look mismatched. Even with the same %, the front 2 windows will look lighter bc the windshield is letting light in.

I am thinking to get 20% in front. Factory rear windows are 22%? Is that confirmed? I didn't know if I should tint the rears over top because I didn't want the fronts to look darker than the factory rears.

SayNoToPistons > If you have a side profile picture, I'd appreciate that. Is there a noticable difference from your aftermarket 20% front tints and the factory rear tints? Thank you!

I will try to get more pics soon.

From the outside, there is no difference in darkness or color. Though of course, having a white leather interior with light bleed from the windshield, will make the front seemingly lighter than the rear under direct light. With my sunshade up, there is no difference. From inside, the front tints are slightly darker than the rear.

The darkest tint one can go in NYC is 75%. Which is practically clear. Fortunately, the authorities don't care much for CUV/SUV's with front tints also.

OK, I'm new to tinting. I didn't realize they had clear film - mentioned in the original post. Does it make that much of a difference in heat reduction? I'm not necessarily interested in dark tinting, but I am really interested in heat reduction. Although, that'll suck on a sunny day in the winter. I guess that's why we have butt warmers!

Probably not the best picture and was taken quickly today after a trip on the interstate. (no close ups of the bug splatter)

The tint applied was 3M Crystalline for its ability to reduce penetrating rays. 40 was used on the sides and 70 on the front. We are not supposed to put anything on the front, but the installer said at 70, which is just barely a shade darker than clear, has yet to hear of anyone being pulled over. After the install I could barely tell that it was darker. 3M does make a 90 that is clear, but my installer does not carry that film. I believe there was another member here that has the same as mine, but he also put 70 on the back windows to reduce heat.

I have the clear ceramic film on the windshield & rear 7 windows. Yes it makes a world of difference. Nothing inside is scorching hot to the touch. Also when driving, I don't feel the heat in my body roasting me. The AC feels much cooler.

I tinted the front windshield on another car with a 50 and got pulled over within the first 30 days, though it sure was cool inside. I may look into getting the clear version that MATR6 is using for the windshield and put the 35 for driver/pass to meet local laws here in FLA. Days of using 5% are long gone and wife will be much happier at night with 35%.

Difference is definitely noticeable granted you get a film that is properly treated against UV with heat blocking, even with a clear film. Carbons and ceramic tints are much better at blocking heat.

Front windshield tinting with a 50% will definitely be a very big aesthetic change. I can barely see my friend's face in my rear view mirror when he had 50% windshield with 20% on other windows. Side privacy is improved dramatically too as opposed to clear windshield and 20% sides. That is in broad daylight with direct sunlight. I would LOVE to get 50% front tints for privacy sake, but that is just asking for trouble by authority in addition to my 20% sides.

Just got mine done. Installer talked me into 20 as it is a touch darker than the factory rears (his meter read 25) and he thought it would balance the look out better given the extra light coming in from the windshield. In retrospect I'm glad I went darker because I think it looks great.

I don't see anyone with inspection stickers in their front windows. How would you put a film on the front with an inspection sticker? You can't really cut the corner out because the inspection guys a BRUTAL with the scraper when they change the sticker. Granted, I have years until that is needed...but still, I'm curious.

I didn't get the front window done, but after seeing the thermal benefits it sure is tempting. Luckily in CO inspection stickers aren't required and even my local park pass has gone to a static cling type sticker so you can transfer between cars.

Slap registration and inspection sticker onto a piece plastic or even cardboard. Place it against the windshield if you have tint.

This is what I could do for legal in TX. I forgot the % but it is ceramic.

Every time I read over this thread title, I'm disappointed that it's not pluralized and capitalized... "SHOW US YOUR TINTS!!!" What am I, 14?
