Just a note: The 10th digit represents the year alphabetically. The example shows that D = 2013. Therefore, E = 2014. When they get to Z, they start over at A.
The only exception is that they skip over letters than could be mistaken for actual numbers, such as O.
Also, just to break it down a little more, the first letter represents the country of manufacture. In this case J = Japan.
