Diesel Inlet Air Temps.

Hello All...

I was monitoring the inlet air temps via my DashHawk, and always noticed how low they seemed to be. Now having come from a CX7 turbo with an ETS topmount intercooler with very high inlet temps, my curiosity was somewhat peaked.

The diesel's inlet temps are actually not much above ambient, so that usually means an intercooler. And being that low, would mean a front mount intercooler. To my surprise, there is a nice front mount intercooler filling the lower grille area.

Good to see Mazda moved away from the top mounts..!!!!

Diesel engines generally radiate less heat, because they have better themal efficiency. In addition, their EGTs are typically cooler. That definitely helps with lower BAT or IAT, in addition to better cooling mechanics.

I must admit to being quite surprised by the size of the FMIC. It's pretty decent, and in a good airflow area.
