Engine idling

:
Mazda CX-5 2.2d SEL
A strange thing has started to happen with my CX-5 diesel on day two. On start up the motor goes straight up to around 1200rpm for approx 10 to 12 seconds then settles back to what it should be. It behaves quite normally from then on until the next start up. It didn't do this at all on day one but did it every time on day two. So far I have not been using i-stop. Has anybody else experienced this?

Its normal for emissions. Check my other posts. The valves are full open during the warm up period to make the car warmer faster improving emissions.

Perfectly normal when the engine is cold. It may have already been warm on the first day when you started it.

This happens both on my truck and my Altima as well I think what scares people is the amount of noise the CX-5 makes :D doesn't bother me. I wait till the RPM levels out and drive out.

Thanks everyone. I was a bit worried to start with. After a couple of weeks I don't really notice it as much any more.
