Hi fellow forumers, Im a newbie from malaysia. Just got my car for one week, was thinking about extending my exhaust tip to flush with the bumper. First question are if I do a weld-on exhaust tip will it void my warranty? saw a couple of nice weld-on borla 2.5" inlet with 4" outlet at my local shop, also there is some bolt-on tip 3"inlet 3.5"outlet (personally i think its just plain ricer with total of 2 chrome exhaust tip overlay each other) but with bolt-on I could easily took out when I goes to my first service. Anyone here did a weld-on exhaust tip? what changes will affect after changing the exhaust tip? Comments & opinion are welcome :)

I don't think the bolt on exhaust would void your warranty unless something happens to the car that's a result of the bolt on.

Changing the exhaust tip wont void your warranty, I just receptly got mine done (weld on) and it makes such a difference in the appearance of the rear.

it's more about styling, not tuning, so no warranty void. Pictures would be nice :)

Cheers,
Miki

Neither Bolt-ons or weld-ons will have anything to do with warranty ever. C'mon, they're just exhaust tips!

I made some: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123816540-Fixing-those-wimpy-exhaust-tips-gt

Any Pictures of the weld on? the stupid salesman told me i can weld on the exhaust but if the exhaust sound change they will consider performance modification thus void my warranty...typical malaysia mazda theory.

Well, got my exhaust weld on today, from stock 3" to 4 1/2" look pretty flush now :)

Size different (wow)

will get some more image out sooner, plus alot of ppl think that changing the size of the outlet tip will louder the exhaust tone a little bit, truth is...it doesn't,for now its well-on plan on changing to axle back exhaust after my second maintenance

Looks good with the taper too, I think I might be making a trip to the exhaust shop in town...

Are the old tips removeable or do they need to be cut off?

You might need to put heat shields above the tip onto the bumper to prevent overheating.

Looks like they cut curved section of pipe (not at the tip), kind of strange....

well, i had to. The length of the factory tip from outside to inside *when it start to curve* is around 5inch, to make it flush needs 2inch more, most of the after market tips are 7.5 inch & above (unless you goes for the 3"-3.5" outlet tips there are some with 5inch - 6inch length tip) even if you found a perfect length tip the stock exhaust need to cut off anyway, due to its tap welded from factory, so best bet is to trim the whole curve n weld on a new one.

As far as the warranty goes, what everyone says is true. However, some dealers will do and say any and everything to not cover your warranty and will blame anything you've done to the car short of a decal. Hopefully the dealer you bought your car from isn't like that and probably isn't, but there's a chance. The Pilot ones I had screwed on my Rav4 back in the day were junk. If I swap out new ones on the CX-5, I'll go the route of having a shop cut off the existing ones and weld on new ones -or- nothing at all.

I did have a custom setup before on my current care. One lesson is that make sure the person who does doesn't get weld stuff all over the tips! A new young guy had worked on my car and now there's a bunch of imperfections on a $250 installation of a custom exhaust system. Ouch. I've gotten over that since it was so long ago, but it was annoying.
