Radar Detector Hard Wiring

:
Pearl White AWD GT w/Tech
Has anyone hardwired their cars yet? I have a Valentine 1 from my previous car that I want to add on. Just wondering if anyone has done so yet, I haven't gotten around to check where the fuse box is but I would assume it would be somewhat accessible?

I want to hardwire V1 to my new CX-5 too, also the Laser J***** (2 front, 2 rear)

Has anyone done this (via the Homelink mirror or domelight) since the last post?

Out of curiosity - do radar detectors even work anymore? I would think most departments had switched away from old style early detectable radar emissions by now.

I was wondering the same exact thing. I was under the impression that newer technologies made radar detectors obsolete. On a side note, I've found Waze to be 90% to 95% accurate when locating speed traps.

It's a cat n mouse game between police "revenue generators" and radar detector companies. Police contract a company to make a unit undetectable, radar companies make a unit that detects newer radar waves. The process rinses and repeats. My (about 10 yr old) Valentine V1 detected (and saved me) from about 4 separate occasions on 4th of July weekend (although I was doing maybe 10mph over), so, K and KA bands are still being used all over my neck of the woods.

Fuzzbusters have been obsolete since Laser speed guns. Sure, the Fuzzbuster will tell you that you just got hit by one, but, all you can do at that point is pull over and get out your driver's license and registration, because if you sere speeding when your fuzzbuster when off, then you're already caught, there is zero time to reduce speed.

But, as far as I know, revenue collectors still have to use regular old fashion radar when moving in their vehicles, so, you can still detect those with enough time to slow down(usually).

Cybercruiser, was the last radar detector you bought was when they were called "fuzzbusters"? (lol2). Sorry, just messing with ya. A cheap detector (Cobra) will do just what you said- let you know when you already been hit. Not a Valentine One or Escort Passport. In fact, my V1 regularly picks up radar about a half mile away, and about a 1/4 around a corner or hill. And it has directional arrows to tell me where the "bogeys" are. That's plenty of time for me to slow down. Even though I'm not a speed demon anymore, I do often go about 5-10mph over, and it's nice to know where the (five-0) are. And as far as lidar radar (laser), they do make jammers that work. And yes, you're correct, if it hits you, you're toast w/o a jammer. But, I find that pacing a faster car about a 1/4 mile behind works just as well to avoid it. Sorry, other guy, somebody has to take one for the team (rlaugh)

If you want a real easy 'almost' hard wire option, get a V1 Savvy/OBD2 interface to power the V1.

I use a Blendmount and a Savvy which powers the concealed display and remote audio adapter. The vehicle speed triggered mute is definitely a bonus. Though rarely (maybe 1%) it takes a couple of minutes after engine start to power everything up.

I have a Homelink mirror, but having the concealed display and remote audio adapter means you're better off dragging power from either the fuse box or a Savvy because you're going to be running cables all over the place anyways.

I just hard wired mine through the fuse box, up the left A pillar and under the headliner. Only took 10 minutes.

I use a Passport 8500 in every vehicle except my F-150 pick-up. Best money I've ever spent. It has saved me from laser twice. The laser operator has to have a very steady hand to target you at a distance (it's like shooting a rifle) and the laser detection of the 8500 will often pick up extraneous laser reflections before the gun gets a lock. Instant on moving radar on a twisty road is the most difficult to avoid.

My auto/motorcycle insurance is very low thanks to my radar detectors.

Ive got one hardwired using the ignition wire. Took 15mins. I have a dashcam thats hooked up the same, they both power on and off with the car.

I'm planning to both myself too.
I also plan on, adding a second camera for parallel parking.
