Hi All,

Thought it might be handy to have a thread to share photos of your new purchases.
I don't have mine yet, but spotted some uploads from a fellow Australian on Flickr.

These shots were taken of the really nice white in Melbourne:

Hello there,

First time poster here, but a long time Mazda owner. Just got my Pearl White CX-5 GT AWD last friday after quite a long wait as replacement for my, also Pearl White, 2007 Mazda3 GT. So far it seems I made a good choice among the competitors I tested before. Here are some shots, with uglier winter wheels eh. I'll add more as time permits.

Congrats on your purchase (and the shots). Love the white so much. I'd already decided on black before I saw the white. I could have easily been persuaded.
Shots of mine to come soon. Just received today :)

Hey Guys,

I just picked up my Black Mica CX-5 GT AWD w/ Tech on Tuesday. Love the car so far. Are you guys doing anything to protect the hood and front bumper of the car from stone chips, etc...?

Just curious...

Shot of mine are coming soon too.

I haven't yet, but there already are at least two OEM options: a full nose mask (not a big fan of those) and a hood edge protector. I kinda like the edge protector; it blends in well to the overall look of the vehicle and is reasonably priced. You can find the nose mask and edge protector at a discount here: http://www.mazdaparts.org/gemacxexac.html. You could also use a paint protection film.

I got my CX-5 10 days ago, but I wanted to detail it before posting any pictures. Here was my process:

- Wash tires, wheels and wheel wells
- Wash vehicle with Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine in the shade of the garage
- Clay the paint to remove any imbedded contaminants that might have occured during shipping (fortunately, there wasn't much)
- Apply Optimum Poli-Seal sealant for a nice layer of protection
- Protect the plastic trim with PERL
- Spray tires and wheel wells with Armor All Tire Foam (cheap and quick)
- Forgot to apply protection to the rims!!! :(

Here's the finished product:

Points off for parking in a Handicapped space! ;)

Just kidding. Awesome color. Black makes any vehicle look amazing, especially after a nice polishing and coat of wax to bring out the color and reflectiveness! Congrats.

Do you know what those caps under the headlights are for? They look too far down for headlight wipers. The U.S. version doesn't have them. Are those the sensors for the iBrake or whatever it's called for frontend collision avoidance?

P.S. I really like that last pic of the tach. It looks like something straight from the brochure with the reflections shining off the surrounding casing!

Thankfully not too busy down at the boat launch. It was the best spot for photos :)
I spent quite a bit on 3M Venture Shield coating (which is on for these photos). This should not only make looking after the car easier (it protects against small dings and scrapes), but hoping it makes cleaning the car easier.

The caps under the headlights are the Xenon light washers. By law Xenon's need to have washing and auto levelling systems in Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand... actually practically everywhere except the US.

They're not on the US vehicle, because the US doesn't make it compulsory by law.

The reason most countries make it law are quite complex, but the basic version is that Xenon's don't work as well as standard headlights if the lens is obscured by dirt, and they're more affected by the weight of the vehicle because they're so directive. As a response to this, Europe's specifications enforced Xenon washing and auto levelling to ensure that the lit area was up to the standard. Most countries saw these specifications as completely understandable and have included them in their own standards. It is for example part of Australian standards.

The current US regulations were released quite a long time ago prior to HID Xenon's being introduced. Further to that, Xenon's fall within the US standards despite European findings.

The University of Michigan did some research into Xenon's, auto levelling and washing for US purposes and came up with findings that auto levelling is very important and washing is less important:
http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/58733/1/100247.pdf

Usage wise, the washers are attached to the same washer bottle as the front and rear windscreen washers and will wash the lights once per each 5 wipes of the main windscreen (when washer is used).

Thanks for comment of tacho. It was just the iPhone. Put it there mainly to show low rpm of diesel compared to petrol.

I've done some country driving now, and find both the AFS and auto levelling features work extremely well. The levelling feature ensures the lights hit a perfect line on the vehicle in front. Very impressed with the headlights.

Thanks for the explanation on the washers. How do they work exactly? Do they just spray a jet of washer fluid on the headlights and let the wind blow dry it as you're driving? Also, in the pics, they just look like covers. Do they pop out whenever they are in use? Apologies for the dumb questions, but I obviously have no experience with these.

The exposed cap is a cover. They cover arms that come out (at rapid speed) and spray jets at the whole light. Much stronger than the windscreen washer but it shares the same reservoir as the front/rear windscreen washers. It's so strong it can bounce off the lights and onto other vehicles. Quite a show.

Search for "xenon washer demo" on youtube and you'll get a general idea of what happens.

I don't get my Cx5 till June but my Mazda 3's washer comes on as mentioned, but also a few seconds after the main wash, it does another spray. Is the CX the same?

I have the dealer all-weather mats and they do not move at all as the have the same floor clips as the carpet mats. The back seat mats do not clip in. I also have the all-weather trunk liner and that is the greatest!!! Worth every penny!!!! For Canadians, look on ebay and order in the States as you will save more than 50% from dealership prises in Canada.

I think so. I need to do another video. In the UK, washers are compulsory by law as well. So you will have washers.

Finally got mine today (a GT with the Tech Pack) ...sorry for the pics (ipod touch....) I will post better ones when the weather will be nicer...

My previous cars before that were, a 2000 Subaru 2.5Rs, a 2004 WRX wagon, and then a 2007 Outlander XLS and now the CX-5. The Outlander was great to be honest, nothing to complain except maybe the fuel consumption.

I will be adding the grey roof rails to mine in the next few weeks...I know the car looks a lot better without them, but I really need them, 2 bikes to carry and 2 kayaks. So we will see.

Can you post some good pics of the seats? I'm worried about the 'cheaper' sport material. Do the seats feel comfortable? Did you try a Touring model seat to compare? What are the adjustments of the Sport seats? (looks like just height and front/back slide) How do you drop the back seats down since they don't have the lever like the touring or GT?

Sorry for all the questions, the nearing dealer for me is 90 miles, and the nearest dealer with a sport manual is 3.5 hours away. There are NO good pics on the web of the Sport interior.

Thanks

I felt the seat fabric on the Sport model is pretty good. Touring model's cloth seems slightly nicer. Seat adjustment is 6-way (including seat angle), sufficient.

Don't recall how to put the backseat down, other than it wasn't much of an issue.

The only reason to go with Sport would be the 6MT, otherwise get the Touring by all means.

I don't have any photos at the moment and the weather's kind of crappy here now, so I'll just try to answer your questions.

The seats are comfortable. They are on the firm side of automotive seats in-general and they have modest bolstering, which means that compared the seats in any other car in this segment the feel like freakin' Recaros. But its really quite mild. The basic Sport Seats in the VW Golf TDI and Mini Cooper are way less enjoyable.

I did sit in the leather seats in a CX-5 on the showroom floor. They seemed the basically they same but with leather. I think the "premium cloth seats" are really similar to the base but have some more attractive detailing.

Adjustments are tilt, foward/back and up/down. The up/down lever is press down to go down, pull up to go up, which is how most manual levers of that type work.

When I first set out to get this car I discounted silver from the brochure. My last car, a Honda Odyssey, was silver and it didn't ever WOW me. In my local Mazda I saw black, red, and sky blue. My lean was towards red or black but I also needed to see a white. I also wanted those in a sand interior. Since my local dealer was offering me little for my trade I opened up the search to other states. I made appointments at some other dealers on a route for a vacation I was taking and when I pulled into this one dealership in Delaware and saw the silver all waxed up (they knew I was coming and had the fever) my search was over.

The other dealers had some of the reds and blacks and whites but this one was so much of a deeper, darker silver than my Odyssey that I fell in love with it. The way the black trim, tinted windows and big lighter silver wheels played off the deep silver metallic color was striking.

Plus it was fully loaded unlike some of the others. I set out to get a FWD without tech package and put in NAV later. But this one spoke to me and I'm so glad I reached deeper into my wallet.

Add one of my Liquid Silver - I haven't done a complete wash and wax yet since the dealership has to take out some scratches on the front fender. The most I've done was doing some decision making on the hood. It has one coat Klasse AOI, one Klasse Sealant Glaze, and two Meguiar's #26. I think I'm going to switch over to Blackfire and try that out as a last step.....

Wow, when I picked up my CX-5 it was still covered in all the white wrap protective plastic sheets. The dealership pealed it all off in front of us and took the plastic off of the seats as well. They then brought it into the garage for prep before we test drove it. When we signed the paperwork and waited for RMV process they detailed the car, wheels and tires and had us do a final walk around and check of everything before releasing it.

Enjoy it looks great!

Ja, netjes hoor! 18 inch net weer even mooier dan 17 inch! Mijne bevalt prima, enige vervelende vind ik de melding 'passenger airbag' in koeieletters in t dashboard. Volgens mij kan dat ook niet zomaar weggehaald worden anders dan de airbag uitschakelen.

Love that red. My two top choices were the red and stormy blue, the blue came in stock first and when I was at the dealership they parked it right next to a red one. I would have been happy with either and am absolutely enjoying my CX-5. I've only seen one other on the road, a dark gray one and that was at least a month ago.

Yeah some may like it but i'm not a big fan of multi-colored interiors.I took out the stock carpet floor mats and replaced them with a set I bought online, bought the all weather cargo tray mat as well. These are a lot easier to clean especially if you have kids.

I went with 20" wheels because I didn't want to mess up the MPG and wanted to keep the factory ride. I put a set of 22" on at first and it killed the gas mileage and there was a lot of strain on the engine.

Thanks, pretty funny actually. I had no intention of getting a white one or any white car for that matter. Had my heart set on the red. However when I did a second take on the red the light was hitting it in such a way that it had a copper hue to it and no longer did it for me. These metallic paints really shift colors. When I saw the white with the black contrasting black trim it was a done deal.

I use the Meguiars ultimate liquid wax for my black cx5....see GIO26NJ did the same....I also recommend that for the clean freaks. I also use their cleaning wipes (no residue). I waxed about a month ago, perhaps more, probably going to hit it again this weekend. Still cleans easily, still repels water, just needs another coat IMO. Also I Rain X all exterior glass.

I usually try to apply wax once a month but in the past I always used spray wax and not the one you apply with a foam applicator, let dry and then wipe off with microfiber. I always thought these liquid waxes were too expensive and did the same job as spray waxes. I can clearly see the difference in quality wit this product. I wash the car with Meguiar's Wash and Wax every week, usually Saturdays unless it's about to rain of course. Plus unlike a lot of waxes this one you can apply in full sun. You have to take your time though and make sure you get every curve and crevice.

diesel model which i didn't want to wait for but obviously this car has some pretty poor pick up. Only upgrade i have seen is a intake

Holy shit bro, you couldn't find something lighter to hit. Good to hear you're OK. Next time just hit the asshole that cuts you off, will be a cheaper fix.

Nice pics. I noticed you got it from John Hine Mazda in San Diego. Haven't seen anyone with a CX-5 while in the 619 until now.
I've only seen a couple around town. My neighbor across the street has had a Metropolitan Grey Sport for a couple of months and I saw a white one about a week ago. Other than that, the only ones I have seen were at the dealership.

After only seeing two in the last few months, I've seen two more in just the last 3 days, both from John Hine.

Newbie here.. :)

I've been stalking the threads here for a few weeks and doing my research. I just got my CX5 yesterday.. not the first color I wanted, but I didn't want to wait for them to attempt to order the White Pearl for me. But sky blue was my next choice, and I have to say.. I'm in LOVE with my CX5.

Thanks! I really didn't want them, and the dealership said it's better to keep them on.. so ehh.. I'll get used to them lol. I also have remote start .. which is something no one in the dealership knew anything about haha. The color is really amazing, and the front end is something I really love too. :) I wasn't too happy to see my '07 Mazda 6 go (we traded her in), because she was customized and was my baby.. but I needed a new vehicle, and I honestly couldn't be happier with the CX5. :)

My sky blue also has the roof rails and I am really pleased with how they look. I think the silver really blends nicely.

well.. after about a month of deliberation I decided if I am spending money for looks, then I am not going to compromise. So I went with 22" :)

Initial review after a bit of city and highway driving is that yes there is a small difference in ride comfort, but its still much much better then what my previous sports car was. As for MPG, I figured I can compensate for the extra weight by driving and accelerating a little slower. So far in city driving I have only lost .5 MPG. (Not sure about highway yet)

For the trade off of driving slower and a slight rougher ride I think its well worth it. I catch myself every morning staring at my own car like an idiot before heading to work... consequently boss man wants to know why I am all of sudden 5 mins late to work every day last week... hahahaha :P

Here is mine...took her camping the other weekend. Down a 5-mile dirt road on a ridge that ended at a river...nothing extreme except the very last 1/4 mile where we were on two wheels on a rut. She handled well, gotta love the AWD on the rocks too. The Toyos surpassed my expectations, also.

And she was loaded down too...me and the wife, the two year old and the one month old, the tent, a cooler for food and one for drinks, 6 blankets for padding (we didn't have an air mattress), three chairs, the baby's bassinet, the shotgun, the pistols, and a camelbak loaded down. Also, that pile of rood on the right was gone by morning. I think we plan on doing this again in September some time.

Now I remember why its called Lost in the Woods....beautiful country up there 92FOX..... I think you downplayed the terrain though, I know from personal experience that neck of the woods has very little flat, so I am taking "nothing too extreme" to mean you seldom exceeded a 40 degree slope....LOL

Did you have your front/side windows tinted?

Did you have your front/side windows tinted?

Yup, the rear windows and hatch are factory tinted (I think its standard for Touring and GT models). I had the dealer tint the two front windows, though they are a bit lighter than the rest due to Texas law.
