I have rear motor mount inserts for my '02 protege. I am trying to figure out if the inserts are different for the front and rear or if they are interchangeable. I cant locate a picture of them side by side, or seperate to determine this and the corksport site only has the one picture in the link below.

The instructions only show the rear inserts, as you will see it shows the front inserts already installed, but they show the rear inserts not installed.

For those of you who have seen both front and rear inserts, are they one and the same, or are they different?

The inserts are different front to back. The diameter as well as the actual pieces where they fit into the mount are different.

I'm a little unclear on the function of the insert. Is this to replace the factory rubber bushing, or simply to brace it? Is it suppost to make things stiffer? I'm having remature engine mount failure (i just bought the car, so I'm assuming either the 40-year-old lady was rough, or the OEM rubbers are rubbish. Nevertheless, I'm looking for a replacement (not the bracket however, I'm sure it's in good shape after only 98,000 km) and I was suggested polyeurethane motor mounts. Are these inserts what I'm looking for, or could they solve the problem anyhow? ...or am I in the left field :p

the stock motor mounts are not solid rubber and they have gaps in them to allow for movement and flex. this minimizes engine vibration in the cabin. these inserts fill the gaps to increase the stiffness of the mount. in your case it will help with the symptoms of a torn mount but does not repair or replace the torn rubber.

ahhhhh i see...
do you know a good source for a polyeurethane replacements for the rubber?

Thanks!

James

not really, you have to replace the mount. a new stock piece can be bought for < $50 if you buy from the right dealer online. there are several mazdas247 vendors here that sell upgraded poly motor mounts.
