Option Removal?

Just received the original factory window sticker from Mazda for my recently purchased 2008 AWD GT. Under Optional Equipment is listed option CE1, LEV-2 ULEV Emissions. This was a California delivered vehicle. My question is, can you remove this option and, if so, would my mileage improve? I live at 4500 feet altitude in Utah. Also, under the Towing Package option is listed "revised engine control module". What effect on performance and mileage does this revised engine control module cause? I don't plan on towing very often.

From what I understand the "revised ECM" will include:

Different transmission shifting points
Transmission cooling system software
Colling fan operation software
et. al.

from a regular non-tow ready CX-9.

All these things are critical parameters for a tow ready vehicle.

I believe I read somewhere that the Stability control algorithm (VSC) is revised for towing. After all, controlling the stability of CX9 vs CX9+Trailer is quiet different.

I doubt you will see any mileage improvement.
