Headliner removal / replacement

Hello all,

After considerable debating, I am preparing, or at least considering embarking on installing Perrycraft rails on my M5. In talking with a professional installer, he warned that the stock hardware did not provide sufficient backing plate against the roof, but then told me that he was not allowed to provide any modification to their installation for liability reasons.

Having been slightly encouraged by the crazy thread at http://www2.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123727457&highlight=camera+headliner I somehow got it into my head that removing a headliner was at least not an impossible job. On the other hand, I have found no Mazda5 specific discussions on how to do it.

Has anyone done this, with pictures, at least so I'll know if there are any nasty gotchas (beyond the scary curtain airbags) lurking? And... for those airbags - if you take the headliner out, and don't touch the darn things... will they work? Is there some safety precaution I should take?

Thanks,
Chuck
