I found a decent ipod/iphone adapter that both charged the Ipod and used the direct output for better sound. The selling point for me was the remote that attaches to your steering wheel.
This one fits into the console with a short wire to the aux in jack:

They have another one that plugs into the dash power point with a stalk/bracket that holds your ipod/iphone:

I've had a couple different brands of adapters and they all have a whine. I bought a ground loop filter from crutchfield for $17.99 that solved the problem completely.
