Coolant sensor CEL

Just bought an 04 MZ3 and today I got a check engine light. Car runs great so I assumed it was something small. Pulled the code at autozone and the error was something to the effect that the coolant temp sensor had failed, or the coolant temperature ranges were beyond or below what they should be. I assume the autozone guy meant the voltage to the sensor was above or below what it should, thus causing the CEL.

Where is the coolant temperature sensor located? I assume it's on the top of the radiator slightly toward the driver's side. I see an empty female connector there and assume that's my issue.

That connector isn't for the sensor. My new 08 has the same unused connector. The connector is probably for some option that isn't on our cars.

I cannot help you with the actual location. It's probably hidden under some other parts. It is usually near the coolant outlet on most cars.
