Rear Vent provides no heat?

Hi there, I have a 2008 Mazda5 with the rear vent option. When I have the front blowing heat, the rear vents do not blow the same temperature. They seem to just blow what ever temperature is outside. I asked Mazda Service at a local Dealership and he said it only blows the front controlled temperature if the A/C is on.

It strikes me as strange that I can't heat the rear with heat during the winter. Anyone else have any experience with the rear vents?

The 07's heat comes from outlets below the front seats, I'm not sure if it's the same with the 08.

Yeah, I was a little surprised to find that, too, during our test-drive of the 08 model back in March when we still needed to turn up the heat. The newly added air vent for the 2nd row seats in the 08 model is for cool air only while the heating duct/vents sit low underneath the front seats, which makes more sense when you think of it.
