Business Week Magazine reviews the CX-9

Wow! "That's a tad faster than the '08 Highlander, which I clocked at just under eight seconds..."
Interestingly enough, all other reviews have put the '08 Highlander to be faster than the CX-9, including the 2008 3.7L CX-9 models.

That's pretty good considering that the 2008 CX-9 is 4,600lbs! However the comparisons with the Highlander, the non-hybrid 4WD models weigh around 4,178 to 4,321 depending on trim level. The 3.7 V6 does have more torque than the Highlander giving it a better acceleration.

Officially the Highlander is slightly faster off the line, but slower to accellerate at highway speeds, which I believe after a week trip to Cali, including LA freeways.

Besides, the Highlander is an ugly, clunky turd that Toyota clearly designed to compete with another outdated turd; the Honda Pilot.
