Low Profile Tires on the CX-9

I really like the new CX-9, but I'm concerned about the low profile tires that comes on it. Never had these type tires before, but I've ridden in other cars with these tires and it seems like all the road noise is enhanced within the cabin which obviously makes for a noisy environment.
I wonder if I could replace these tires with say, a little less low profile tires?? Would this compromise stability & safety??
Anybody care to educate me on these tires?

The lower trims of the CX-9 will come with 18's, which are not too low of a profile given the diameter of an SUV wheel.
