Visteon sure knows how to pimp a minivan. This M5, bought from Mazda for a dollar in exchange for showing it, originally made its debut at SEMA, but is now at CES where Chris snapped these photos. Exterior modifications include 18" RO_JA Motorsports wheels w/Toyo Proxes tires, Visteon lighting in the front and back (including tails with "5" lit up in them), rear cameras replacing the mirrors, and center-mount DNX exhaust.

The inside is what's cool about this vehicle, though. The interior features a head-up display, which shows everything from vehicle speed to phone numbers, directions, radio indicators, and it even acts as a rear camera. Tactical Network Controls, or TacNet, is a hand-shaped controller and is a device that takes the various electronic components and systems that can be dangerous to access while driving and centralizes them into one location. It's already out there, used mostly for law enforcement applications.

The low frequency bass generator you can see in the center console does more than bump the bass -- assuming it's installed properly onto the cross member, it vibrates the entire vehicle like 2 15" subwoofers and can be integrated into lane-departure warning systems, drowsy driver detection systems, etc. in addition to the audio purposes.

There's also a dockable DVD player with Nintendo Gameboy Advance. This piece should be in production soon. It has two docks, one in the rear roof area for backseat passengers, and one in the rear of the vehicle for tailgating. It also works on a/c power and can be plugged into a home TV. Pricing isn't out yet, but Chris figures around $1,300. This could be available both in the aftermarket as well as from the factory.

More pics and the official release after the jump.

Visteon team turns MAZDA5 into advanced technology showcase

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 1, 2005 Visteon Corporations InnovationWorks product development team is showcasing several exclusive new technologies on a 2006 MAZDA5. The demonstration vehicle will be unveiled for the automotive press this week at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas. The vehicle is on display through Friday, Nov. 4, at the Visteon exhibit (No. 10322) in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The Visteon team turned the MAZDA5 an all new multi activity vehicle into a playground of electronic technologies. The integrated advanced in-cab entertainment and electronics systems can be used in daily driving or for recreational outings and tailgating.

Among the additions is a sophisticated electronic control system featuring an automotive-grade data center, side- and rear-view camera interface, and head-up information display. Visteons head-up display concept demonstrates a method to view a variety of driver information technologies such as GPS, music artist information, incoming cellular text messages. It can also replace traditional rear and side-view mirrors and through the use of cameras, the system takes the images typically viewed through the mirrors and projects them onto the head-up display screen located at the top-center of the vehicles windshield. A mechanism installed in the vehicles headliner is used to project the images.

Additionally, Visteons Hands-Free Phone Kit using Bluetooth wireless technology allows the driver to keep his or her hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

This Visteon demonstration vehicle also includes two implementations of Visteons Dockable Family Entertainment System, which combine in-vehicle DVD entertainment and future gaming capabilities with the additional convenience of portable use in any setting. While one dockable DVD system is integrated into the MAZDA5 headliner for rear-seat viewing; the second is installed within the vehicles lift gate for exterior viewing when the lift gate is raised. Custom speaker enclosures using Boston Acoustics aftermarket audio components rotate out of their recessed in-vehicle positions for optimal sound performance outside the vehicle through the tailgate.

We challenged ourselves not only to create a vehicle that would be a center of attention at SEMA, but one that would demonstrate the unique versatility of Visteons latest and most popular technologies, said Greg Gyllstrom, vice president and general manager, Visteon aftermarket operations. These innovative products are quickly gaining popularity at the automotive manufacturer and aftermarket levels. In fact, the Visteon Dockable Family Entertainment System is now a recommended entertainment platform marketed by thousands of vehicle dealerships around the world.

The Visteon-enhanced MAZDA5 also incorporates several performance and styling upgrades, including an exclusive Air Induction System with variable noise control capability. This new Visteon technology enables the vehicle to dynamically tune engine sound without impacting performance by accentuating or eliminating specific noise frequencies. The MAZDA5 demonstration vehicle also is equipped with a premium Visteon Racing Radiator. Available for a broad range of muscle cars and sport compact models, Visteon Racing Radiators are handcrafted using advanced racing cores and heliarc-welded aluminum stock. Nearly 100 percent of NASCAR teams use Visteons ultra-efficient radiator cores.

Visteon interior and exterior lighting technologies Light Emitting Diode (LED) and Electroluminiscent lighting are used to personalize the legendary Mazda styling.

Other functional exterior enhancements include, low-profile Toyo performance tires, RO_JA wheels, stylized DNX exhaust tips from Tenneco, LED bulbs from Osram and fabrication work by Prefix Corporation.

Following SEMA, the vehicle will be shown at a variety of automotive industry events across North America before being put on permanent display at Visteons Corporate Offices and Innovation Center in Van Buren Township, Mich.

Visteon competed with more than 25 other automotive product suppliers for the opportunity to develop and display the customized 2006 vehicle on behalf of Mazda North American Operations.

OMG that is horrible! What the hell is with the blue dash s***. And talk about rice, what were they thinking puting blue lights in the shap of 5s. I lile the real 5 but this has to go.

From what I've seen, these demo cars are usually very nasty. They go for shock value...if you see this thing at a show (CES, SEMA) odds are you'll say "Oh my God, that thing is rediculous, who the hell would drive that?!!" But, the odds are the same that you'll stroll over and check it out.
Mission: Accomplished

(mswerd) but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth...Yeah...not diggin'it AT ALL (notcool)

I kinda like the 5 lighting design in the taillights...it's different

I'm really diggin the center exhaust

The only thing that I like about it is that small blue light in the front headlight.

The rest is very amateur and unimaginative. (yupnope)

I'm sure someone out there will do some kick ass customization that we'll all wish was ours.... but until then.... I'll stick with my stock 5!

thats pretty bad, i mean this car really does not compare to the cares at HIN. not sure what ot make of this. its just bad and does not even look like a pro did it.

Ditto everyone. Gauges are really nice... the rest: Fugly (capital F) (boom01)

that 5 is a cool idea for a taillight on a show car. the stupid thing about it is that on the passenger side, it's a 2. and 52 just doesn't make any sense.
