How long has the 5 been out?

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. I signed up because I've currently got an 01 CRV and I'm seriously thinkin about gettin' a 5. But I'm wondering how long the car has been on the market worldwide? My other question, not as important, does anyone know of a way to work around the stereo (for amplifiers and such) because replacing seems kinda impossible (short of going custom) for now. Any advice would be of great help. Thanks

I picked mine up Aug. 1, but I want to say the one I got was on the lot for about a month. I think the 5s have been around in Japan (sold as Premacy, chassis code CR) for a little bit longer.
As for the stereo, not yet really. There is a double din dash panel available in Japan, but I do not know of any leads for US availability.

I guess you could use line output converters to hook amps up to the factory HU.
And the factory speaker size is 6x8.
