Check it out:
2001 ITR took 6.2sec 0-60mph 35.3sec 120mph
2001 Neon R/T 7.6sec 0-60mph 54.1sec 120mph
2000 EclipseGT 7.02sec 0-60mph 37.8sec 120mph
2000 Civic Si 7.2sec 0-60mph 55.6sec 0-120mph
2000 Tiburon 8.1sec 0-60mph 54.4sec 0-120mph
2001 MP3 8.2-8.3sec 0-60mph 51.8sec 0-120mph
on the longrun to 120mph the MP3 beat the Tiburon, Civic SI,and the Neon R/T.

Yes, its me the skeptic again!! Bear with me for a second and let's look at these #s as I'm sure they are from some kind of magazine or reputable source. Its basically saying that the MP3 is faster from 60 - 120 than an SI, not only that, but when they get to 60, the SI is more than a second ahead, yet the MP3 finishes damn near 4 seconds ahead!!

Looking at the 2 cars' power curves, those results just aren't consistent with what we know about these two cars.

MP3=torque down low and in the midrange,
SI=, not much down low, but lives at the top

Hmmm.....probably those damn C & D boys!! Anyways, interesting read.

What is the source if you don't mind me asking??

Not only that, but the weight of these cars comes into play in acceleration as well, although the SI is not that much lighter than the MP3. For a good point of reference, every 100 lbs is usually good for one tenth in the 1/4 mile.

Part of the reason why is the Neon R/T top speed is 124mph. The Tiburon Top speed 123mph. The Civic Si Top speed i think was 117mph but i was wrong it's 126mph. Unfortunately our MP3 doesn't have a governer if it does i would say past the 135mph mark. Through the powerband the Mp3 every gear that was redlined dropped 1500rpms or 2000 rpms kept us right there where the flbs and sae@horsepower.

Top speed has nothing to do with acceleration man!! That is a fixed # with a given amount of mods and conditions.....nothing more.

126 for an SI!! No way.....dude, stop taking everything the magazines say as if it were written in the bible. That claim is way off.

For instance man, you can have bottom end power and not have top end power. you can't have both unless you are running a v-6 230hp or 200_++I-4cylinder or v8-250hp figure it out MP3 takes 8.2-8.3sec to 60mph and people have gone well over 120mph an Si 0-60mph 7.2sec top speed 126mph and a buddy of mine can only hit 120mph cause he says it's to shakey and vibrate's. A neon R/T 7.6sec 0-60mph Top Speed 124mph. TIburon 8.1sec to 60mph and top speed 123mph. your talking about acceleration well your flbs and sae@horsepower kicks in when the powerband take's over horsepower and flbs has nothing to do with top speed but it does through gears.

I don't need it explained, I understand it! I think you are confusing top speed with acceleration my friend!! HP and torque have a direct relationship with acceleration. Their only relationship with top speed is that once your vehicle reaches what is called an aerodynamic wall, it needs the extra hp/torque to break that barrier.

So, as I said before, the SI does not reach that wall at 126, the SI can easily do 135 if given the proper stretch of highway.

Anyway, this isn't a top speed test, so I will say once again, top speed has nothing to do with 0 - 120 as these vehicles do not have top speeds below that.

Don't be a magazine racer!!

Hey mike s.
i noticed your part of redline motorsport in cali. i am probably going to be joining the club here in Michigan. I just filled out my application last night. its good to see another mp3er in redline motorsports. anyways i just thought that was pretty cool. sorry for the off topic post.

Chris

Well, I don't have an MP3, but my roommate does and I'm just a car enthusiast in general, so I post on many boards. As far as those guys go, they are a great bunch of guys. Some of the best friends I have ever had in my life. You will love it as one of the best things about them, is you will love the poeple as much if not more than the cars. Anyway, take it easy man and feel free to IM me or maybe I'll just see ya on the Redline board anytime.

WEWT??? So lots of people take their mp3s over 120mph, and your friend gets scared when he takes his Si over 120, THEREFORE the mp3 has a faster 0-120 than the Si?
Can you please tell us where you found these numbers?
Forget the fact that i have an Si, i just have trouble believing that it takes the Si 48.4 seconds for 60-120 and it takes the mp3 only 43.5 seconds, ESPECIALLY when the Si has a 1-second faster 0-60 and also has 20 more horsepower.

I guess the Si's dont have any kind of governers on them? I know that my old 93 Accord did. It would not go over 115mph, I was pissed when I got enough balls to go all out with it one day. I am not sure if it was a rev limiter or what but it sucked. It was traded in for my new MP3 :) Although I like the new Si's, I would not want one for the fact that everytime you turn around there is one in view. :p But I can't complain about honda's, they are great cars. ;)

Yep, no governor.. top speed is basically drag-limited (close to redline though) unless you have big power upgrades.

Hehe yeah when i bought my Si, i lived in the midwest where i rarely saw 'em. Now that I live in Cali, i see them EVERYWHERE. All blue too , at least mine's black :p
I rarely see mp3s.. they're really awesome IMO apart from the 140hp.. Great handling, great interior, great stock stereo :D

No doubt man, you made a great decision and that is one thing I love about the MP3, rareity!! On the other hand, I see one every day......cuz my roommate owns one!! Seriously though, you're lucky if you see another MP3 once every couple weeks.

See i don't like when people put words in other people's mouth. Where did i say that the MP3 is faster than the Si from 60-120mph that's your opinion. I said it takes the Si 55.6sec 0-120mph and the MP3 51.8sec to 0-120mph. Just because you have 20morehorses and Vtec doesn't mean you can get to that speed very fast. look the MP3 is a 2.0 Tiburon 2.0 Neon R/T 2.0 on the longrun they all got to 120mph quicker than the Si. But on the Start the Si beat them to 0-60mph. Uh lets see the R/T has 135flbs, the Tiburon has 133flbs,and the MP3 has 142flbs. So maybe at those high speeds the MP3 took the Si cause the Si has only 111flbs.
