In an effort to learn more about new Mazda5 owners, I created a little quiz. Please answer only if you have bought a Mazda5:

Touring Phantom Blue 5-speed manual, came with tinted windows added by dealer.

2. Whereabouts are you located?

SF South Bay Area, California, around Cupertino / Saratoga / San Jose

3. Is this your first Mazda?

Yes!

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?

Scion xB, Mazda3, Toyota Matrix, PT Cruiser, Mazda6, Toyota Prius. I was looking for smaller cars with a hatchback that still had room for the kids. I was leaning towards the xB before checking out the Mazda5.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?

Ability to space out three young kids, small size, and liked the way it drove.

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?

Dedicated connection for iPod, the "6 +1 karakuri seat" and ... hmm, I'll save the last wish for later I think. :)

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?

Eventually I'll fix the iPod audio thing but no rush.

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?

No!

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?

Getting lots of stares, and people I've given a ride have been impressed.

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, toaster oven or what?

I call it a wagon or "my beach buggy" which makes no sense. :)

11. What question did I forget to ask?

I figured 10 questions was a nice round number.

They like it, but its a sporty miniminivan to them

Platinum Silver Sport Auto + Fog Lights

Yup!

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?

Mazda3 Hatch, Honda CR-V, Toyota Matrix, Toyota Prius, Subaru Forester. It was down to the Mazda3 or CR-V when we test drove the Mazda5, and we probably would have bought the Mazda3.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?

(1) Flexibilty and room to "grow" as our family does.

(2) Stylish and fun to drive!

(3) An amazing value compared to everything else on the market. Except for the Mazda3 hatch, it's cheaper than any of the other vehicles I was considering (when equipped with similar options).

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?

(1) It's get better gas mileage...maybe by adding an extra gear for the highway.

(2) An armrest for the front passenger.

(3) An inch more of cargo room behind the third row.

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?

Not really. I may have the windows tinted, and I'm definitely going to buy the rear bumper step plate once the accessories are available.

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?

Nope...just mine!

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?

"Oooo...a mini-mini-van". And after riding in it: "I can't believe how quiet it is".

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?

I think of it more as a wagon than a mini-van, so "space wagon" seems appropriate.

Not sure, but I forgot to answer it too (silly)

Platinum Silver GT 5-speed. That's basically a Touring, without NAV.

Nope, formerly owned a '97 Mazda Protege. Traded it in on this car.

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?

I wouldn't have bought a car if the 5 didn't exist. Thought about a Toyota Highlander and a Chrysler Pacifica, but didn't really want an SUV.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?

(1) Room for 6.

(2) Damn good looking.

(3) Price point.

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?

(1) AUX input on the stereo.

(2) More accessories available! Hell, SOME accessories would be nice!

(3) Give us NAV in Canada!

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?

Tinting windows, step plate and roof rack on order. I'm also on the waitlist for an Auxmod, so I can use my minidisc.

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?

Negative.

Ody, Sienna, MPV, grand caravan - we wouldn't have bought any mini-van though, if the mazda5 wasn't created - hubby hated each and every one of them. We started thinking about Toyota highlander hybrid w/ 3rd row or volvo wagon w/ 3rd row - but they were a little too pricey for our liking.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?
5spd!!!, 6 passenger, affordability

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
6+1 seating, one more lighter outlet, lighter colored interior.

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?
roof rack, cover for rear bumper, ipod compatibility, tinted rear windows

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
NOPE - I keep looking though! I know that they're out there because 3 were sold off the lot with mine.

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?
So far 2 strangers have stopped me on the street to ask me questions - one in a CRV?(honda) and another in a Town and Country (chrysler)

My friends and extended family like it - they think that I'm just a car fanatic and they consider it the "car fanatic minivan" meaning - they're not quite sure why I'm so excited over it although they think it's nice.

My nieces and I decided to call it the "mini-Vagon" said with a german accent.
Although I'm tempted to call it the "tardis"

I read the little paragraph for the dealers concerning the demographics of people looking to buy a 5 and scarily I fit it nearly exactly! I'll post it when I find it.

Have the back window open, Power Seat for driver. Dvd video for the kids. I would buy this over the navagation.

Tint, Rims, Change antenna size.

1) Middle ground of car and van (Size and cargo) Practicle solution for our everyday needs. Did not support the big vans or SUV's. I guess more of the European Mentality

2) Great price and value

3) Perfect fit for our family!!

1) DVD system available

2) A true silver color available (not steller(Green) or platinum)

Everyone likes and it wants one. It's going to sell well!!

Nope, I had an 86 Mazda 323 for a few months until I lost the crank bearings. Primative zoom-zoom (ricer)

Mazda6 wagon, Subaru WRX wagon

Price vs. options, it's new/different, fuel economy

Move the brake pedal a teeny bit to the left, HIDs, more power

Yes indeed. I'll probably start off with tint, HIDs, remote start (as the bank acct. allows), but then........

Haven't noticed yet, but then again it was 10ish (at night) when it left the lot.

The way it drives. Size.

Rear air! Other than that it lacks any storage with all 6 seats in use but we knew that when we test drove it.

I plan on tinting the windows and hopefully the SAT button on the radio means I can add Sirius.

Not one.

Family loves it. Thinks it is very cool espicially the fact the rear windows roll down.

Honda CRV, Honda Oddesy (SP?), Toyota Sienna, Nissan Quest

It's not a minivan, driving it is an awesome experience, my wife and kids love it.

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?

Rear A/C, Passanger arm rest, auto-locking doors when you drive so fast.

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?

I wouldn't mind, but my wife probably won't let it happen (that's what the ZX2 is for)

NO :D

Everyone loves it! From just seeing the outside of it and saying it looks really nice, to people getting inside it and taking a ride and wanting to go get one. I did have a friend laugh when he revved the engine though (but he owns a Tercel, so he doesn't have much right).

It's a Toyota Matrix with a third row seat and sliding doors (in a sense). I'd say a mix between minivan and wagon.

Make it slightly less mini-van-like in appearance

Neighbors and family love it, but it's absolutely invisible on the road. NOBODY notices it (maybe due to the color), so I feel like I'm driving a stealth vehicle.

Pocket minivan, tall wagon, space van, I dunno. I like it.

How long did you have it before the recall? (10 days here - it was like taking delivery of a second brand new car Friday...it still smelled brand new). (yes)

We went to look at the Mazda6 sportwagon and my wife ended up liking the Mazda5 better./ Probably the sportwagon.

My wife liked it, my wife liked it, my wife liked it (just kidding...that is the main reason, but price and fuel mileage were other prime considerations.

Armrest for passenger, lightweight 18's with sport suspension, turbo

Yes

They tend to like it. A few have hated it. Teenagers seem to like it a lot.

We'd probably have kept our Protege 5 for a while longer if this wasn't available. We loved that car, but this is more of the same to us, only slightly larger.

It's a Mazda, size, price

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
MP3 Standard, a Front Passenger Arm Rest, Sun roof that retracts back into the roof (my Protege had it and it was a smaller car?), and Heated Front Seats

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?
Nope. Maybe tint the windows and add a rear bumper guard.

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
Just one, it was black

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?
Pretty much everyone loves it and it's size. They say they like it because "it's a minivan, but it's not".

None, everything else with 3 rows of seats was too big or too minivan. Maybe a Pilot, Durango, Trailblazer, etc.

Seats for five, great handling, manual tranny
6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
Standard 6-disc/6-speaker audio, standard fogs, Mazdaspeed package

Nothing major, it's a lease. Maybe DIY strut bar, SR intake, shift knob...
8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
2, one black, one greensilver
9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?
The family all like it and they're surprised at how little it cost
