How To: Wire Fogs on a 2003.5 MSP
This walkthrough is for those of you who want to wire P5/03 MSP fog lights onto your 2003.5 MSP. This will obviously work with other fog lights, but this is just what i did.
What you need before you start: (what i used) P5 Fogs P5 Fog Light Brackets P5 Fog Light Switch 18 Gauge Wire - 20 ft. (10 ft red/10 ft black) Wire Taps Butt Crimps Duct Tape Electrical Tape Pliers Wire Stripper Coat Hanger (I'll explain later) Assuming you are smart enough to know how to mount the fog light brackets to the bumper and mount the fogs to the brackets.... First step is getting your fog light switch from either a totaled P5/03 MSP, a member on this board who isnt using it, or Mazda. This Fog light switch goes in the very left slot on the group of switches located underneath the bezel. This is the same group that has the Dimmer switch on it. Once you have that switch all you have to do is remove the dead switch and you will notice a blue clip sitting behind it. Plug this clip into the back of the fog light switch you purchased. Now onto the hard part. Remove the piece of trim located underneath your steering wheel so you can see the whole lot of wires underneath there. You will see a white clip located near the security knob box, it is white with four wires coming out of it(THERE SHOULD BE NOTHING PLUGGED INTO THIS CLIP). There are two pictures of this clip attached to this post. You will need to tap into only TWO of these wires. The two i used were Blue and Blue/Yellow Stripe. The blue wire provides the current and the Blue/Yellow Stripe provides the ground. Tap into the Blue wire with your red wire and tap into the Blue/Yellow Stripe with your Black wire.

Now you should have your Red wire that you purchased tapped into the Blue wire and your Black wire that you purchased(ground) tapped into the Blue/Yellow stripe.
You will then need to route these wires through the firewall. I used the same location that i have my Boost Gauge vacuum line running through. There is no easy way to route anything through this location so what i did was remove my vacuum line that is connect to my boost gauge and push it back through the firewall into the foot well of the car. I then Cut a whole in it and placed the red and black wires through the vacuum line. Then i used my trusty coat hanger and pushed that through as well. Bend the coat hanger around the vacuum line so it wont come off when you are routing it through the firewall. I simply pushed the hanger part through until i knew i could grab it in the engine bay. Here is a picture of what the end of my vacuum hose looked like with the wires and coat hanger through it.... here is another pic...

Now run the wire down to the drivers side fog light. I went through the location that many of you might have your Injen going through. I will have an SRI once my pipes are finished so this location worked fine for me. You can always route these wires whichever way you like.
Here is another pic...

Now i used wire taps to tap into these two wires with another set of red/black which will run to my passenger side fog light. As you can see in the picture below. Just make sure you use electrical tape wherever there is a possibility of these wires grounding out or touching each other.
After i tapped into these two wires i ran the other set of red/black wires through the same location over to my other fog light. I routed these two wires through the front part of my bumper and used duct tape to make sure they were secure and would not get caught in anyway. Use butt crimps and crimp your black to black and red to red. (the obvious reason why i chose red/black wire) If you only have one color of wire available just make sure you are attaching the Power source to the red wire coming off the fog light. That means attach whichever wire you have connected to the solid BLUE wire coming off the clip under the dash. Then connect the other wire to the black wire coming off the foglight. Now go test your wiring job. The foglights should turn on by simply depressing the switch. They should also work with your headlights on. When you turn your Hi-Beams on they should turn off. Tape up all your crimping/tapping areas with electrical tape, duct tape all the wire to a proper area and screw your fog lights in. Worked like a charm for me. Please put this in the How To section.

hey mattybo,
what was your reason for not using the plug by the washer reservoir? the one that u can plug the factory (03) harness into? what is the white clip for by the MAZDA security box? why is it not plugged in? what i was planning to do is use the factory switch, with the factory wire harness (that plugs into the plug by the water reservoir and runs along the front of the bumper). what are your thoughts on that?

Four surgeons were taking a coffee break and discussing their work. The first one said, "I think accountants are the easiest to operate on. Everything inside them is numbered.""I think librarians are the easiest," said the second. "When you open them up, all their organs are arranged alphabetically."The third surgeon said, "I prefer to operate on electricians. Their organs are color-coded."..World Of Warcraft gold is WoW gold."You're all wrong," said, the fourth. "Lawyers are easiest. They're heartless, spineless, gutless, and their heads and asses are interchangeable."
