How To: Ebay FMIC

OK, seeing as I did this months ago, this is LONG overdue. This is a general how to, assuming you know basically what you're doing already. The hot pipe routing is not ideal and I'll probably be redoing it eventually. Also, you really should use a slim fan if you're running 2.5" piping.

If you'd like to bead your pipes after you make the cuts in them, please see this link for a very cool little home made tool:
http://southrnfresh.com/showthread.php?1060-How-to-bead-your-own-intercooler-pipes

Here is the hot pipe, uncut Ubend from the CX racing kit... a 2-2.5" coupler is needed, or different size if you've gone with different size IC piping.

Down there, you can see where it connects to the uncut 90* pipe from the kit

Don't really like this routing, but it works for now. The 90* pipe comes through the spash guard, and connects to a cut Ubend.. you can see that the joint isn't perfect... that and just the fact that its very exposed makes me want to change this eventually.

OK, onto the cold side... a 45* pipe, uncut from the kit, also notice that a piece of the frame has been notched and bent back to clearance for the pipe.

another 45* pipe was cut, and a 45 coupler was used to get through the CAI hole. After the BOV pipe, I cheated, using a turbolife cold pipe that I cut... I'm planning on using the cut off section as an intake, seeing as it already has a recirc fitting that is over an inch in diameter.

and here, you can see it a few weeks later, very dusty, with the BOV recirculated.

What? Almost a month and no posts??

This is how I did my fmic, not identical due to my ride height but I followed Carl's advice. VERY cheap compared to other kits and more than worth it. I spent $250-$300 for everything(minus the BOV) to make this fmic. Well worth it, I see other kits that are extremely similar for A LOT more, like couple hundred more.

If you're looking to do a fmic but you don't have the money nor the need of a high end kit such as the Perrin or Turbolife, this is most def the way to go!

Feel free to use these in the first post if you'd like.

I had to remove my window washer fluid and cut out room for the pipe but I love it. My washer nozzles broke a long time ago anyways. lol

You should go to the seller and do a search for that kit, then copy the link and put it in here since a direct link won't last forever.

I tried, but they have like a bazillion different kits. Not sure of the exact match.

u guys have any pics of the front bumpers on?

i have the hiboost kit right now and would to into a larger intercooler and better routing.

dub what intercooler did you get? seems to be pretty large and fill the whole lower grill of the front bumper.

but great write up and thanks for the info, def. looking like i got a new project to do.

im an idiot lol, i saw your car at indy

thanks for posting them up though, that's about the same size as the hiboost, trying to one thats bigger.

i could fit a bigger core just by shortening the tubes.. wouldn't be a big deal. and at indy, i had no plumbing... just the interfooler.

I got a "Sport JDM" 28"x7.5"x2.5" fmic off of ebay, $95 iirc. I had the bottom of the crash bar cut n welded to fill up the whole grille opening.

hell yes! black ic for FTW! much more stealth! :p i painted one side of mine black, if i don't like it, i can always turn it around! lol

and i got both the ic and ic piping off of cx racing, the 28x5.5x2.5 and the 2.5" piping, i'll have my hot side clocked down, so i'm guessing i'll probably use less of the pipe... we'll see!

It might seem like I disagree with Dub on every aspect of the MSP but for the most part, I have my reasons.

This is no exception. Nothing against you Dub. This is what's great about cars though, two cars with the same badge (at least both Protege's) and two very different directions.

Anyhow, I dislike black IC piping for one reason. No one believes me that I am boosted. Granted stock boost is lame but they're like... "Where's the IC?" I go to pop the hood and they left out of boredom. So why cover something that is so gorgeous? Hell, I might put a FMIC on mine and use a custom stencil to say "See, I'm boosted b****!"

Is there anyone that has run the air cleaner into the drivers fender well and the IC piping up in by the trans???

you can do that fairly easily by removing the stock SMIC and routing the pipe through there.

What about for a P5? I have a full rad. Do I need to have that extra space beside the MSP rad to route it right there or can I get away with the small amount of space that I have?
