congrats on the Safeguard find! I am still trying to dig out of my wrong unit purchase, but am now in the good graces of the manufacturer as a result. I hope to turn it all around, and be joining this rather exclusive club soon. I am very excited to see your car coming so close to completion!

I'm not a Protege owner, but I am a fellow engine builder. I thought I would post to say thanks for the entertainment of what is now 27 pages of great fun. In addition to my Mazdaspeed6 I also have a 1971 Nova that I'm on about Round 4 or 5 with. At the present it has an 807hp small block, but I'm not really satisfied with that.

I've been saving money the last year or so and will continue to for another year or so before I start my next build for it. The next round will be my final round as I try to push into the 7 second range with a 10.5L twin-turbo big block. From one builder to another, I appreciate your well-documented build thread and wish you luck.

Sell your non compatible unit, and get one of this ones. I feel like you in some way cause i bought 2 weeks ago the turbo xs Knock light with knock sensor and now i don't need them or have any use of it. and i need to sell it..

Welcome to my Build Thread Sir. Thanks for posting Well I'll never get to yours unsatisfied 807 HP but what i had and what i will is well enough power for this type of engines and cars as a daily driven form after this round i can say i'm fully done performance wise..

You're also working with four less cylinders and a car that weighs less than 2/3 of what my car weighs. I am quite certain your Protege will hold its own very well, even against some of the best street-driven sports cars.

Well, Before deciding doing this round 2 build of mine, had couple of interesting races on private roads in here i got to beat 2009 M3 with 420 HP and my best was my friend Richard on his Laborghini Gallardo, Beat him from everything, Dig, Roll, 20 mph, 40 mph, 60 mph and 90 mhp rolls, he was staring to catch up and starting to pull on me at around 172 mph according to my GPS so i'm very happy with what i had and what i'm going to hopefully have in this final round 2.

The sacrifice I make with my Nova is that it doesn't handle very well off of the drag strip. Oh well though. It looks like you are putting together a very complete package. Makes the Mazda folks proud when they see build threads like this.

Thanks again sir, i'm really trying my best and putting all i can and can afford to make this new build of mine a little different and to go a little further. I hate when people talk bad about this cars, they do have potential more than what people thinks, is just a matter of putting the right parts and get the right person to do it right from the first time. Without the help of my friends in here and the mazda comminity i wasn't able to achieve what i have and what i hopefully will.

The Head is a fully custom build stage 3 head with basically everything available done to it, custom cams, bigger valves, port and polish, 5 angle valve job etc... my rev limiter is set to 7.7k rpm if not mistaken, and if i raise it up to 8k i could of gone faster probably like 185 where i think and have no doubt our gear ratio is maxed completely out.

this has been discussed at length. at the redline he claims to have run, it is physically possible. at his power level, wouldn't doubt it. he's running standalone EMS, so the stock speed limiter (which it has been argued both ways as to whether or not it exists) is irrelivant.

After being at my mechanic's shop we have decided we need better cams. we were thinking about getting Integral Stage 2.5 Cams, what do you guys think about these bad boys ? are they good ? anybody tried them before, according to their website these are just dropped in with no modification to valvetrain or shims what do you guys think. i need serious inputs in here before i buy them..Thanks in advance..
