North American SVT and European TeamRS Come Together Under New Director

Here is some good news amongst all the glum headlines from the American automakers. As part of the company's One Ford strategy, Ford has appointed Jost Capito as Director of Global Performance Vehicles. Jost has had a hand in some of the killer European Fords like the 2009 Ford Focus RS pictured above. Under the new plan cars like the Focus RS will finally be available in the U.S.

The decision shows some evidence that Ford hasn't forgotten about performance amongst the flood of more fuel-efficient vehicles. Jost has been with Ford of Europe since October 2001. Over the course of his employment he has been responsible for motorsport and performance vehicle programs in Europe. Since November 2007 he has been Vehicle Line Director of Ford of Europe's Performance Vehicles and has led the development of the 2009 Ford Focus RS as well as the Fiesta ST and Focus ST performance models.

Jost will be moving to Dearborn, Michigan in January 2009 to work at Ford's World Headquarters. Managers of both Ford's North American Special Vehicle Team (SVT) and Ford of Europe's performance vehicle operations will report to Jost in his new role. He will also be responsible for Ford's global motorsport plans and programs.

You sir are misinformed. Dearborn is a really nice city actually, as long as you're on the west side. The east backs up to a not-so-pretty part of Detroit. My guess is he'd live in a ritzier part and drive to Dearborn every day.

Also, SVT is still kicking, with the Raptor and the 2010 GT500 out there. Not sure if anything else is in the pipeline, but I would guess when they return to profitability that we might see more performance cars. I'd love to see the next SVT Focus rival the MS3 in terms of performance. Another player in the game.
