pmartz16 2008.5 BM Mazdaspeed 3

Been a while since I updated this. Well the car is finished in the engine bay with the wire tuck and finally cleaned up that HPFP area. I used the Rondiculous Motorsports HPFP cover. Must say the quality of work is pretty bad but I had my powdercoater clean up the edges and make the bends uniform before he coated it. Now it looks pretty good. The car now has HP+ pads all the way around, damn are the noisy. But BRC! Also I just bought a miata so that will be getting the majority of my attention for a while. The ms3 just didn't do what I wanted it to do. Its just not very good at autox and track days. Yes its powerful and fast and pretty so thats what it will be. a fun car to hoon about in and take the girl out. I picked up a spare engine for the ms3 though, it has a spun bearing and I started the tear down process. I also picked up a PERM shift knob. If anyone ever thought about grabbing one it is time! they are awesome. I sold my old JBR TMM and corksport PMM and bought CP-e stage two mounts. Really excited to get those in as well. I am on 245/40/18 BFG Rivals also. The tires are amazing and have so much traction.
Time for Pictures!

Alright I'm a pansy. But I can't take the noise of the HP+ anymore. Going back to another pad. What pads are you guys using that don't squeak that much? I didn't have a problem with my HPS but just don't know if I should get them again.

Keep them around for when you need them and run HPS for daily.

With the miata I don't really have a desire to have them. If I can't make it so the HPS brakes won't cost a lot then I will keep them otherwise I will sell them to offset the cost of the HPS

So I am in the process of adjusting the fueling tables on my e85 map in order to lean the car out while in low load conditions so I can stretch the mileage of those tanks. I am getting about 200 miles per tank while running ethanol with commanding 14.7 AFR. So I am leaning it out to 16.5 AFR to pick up some extra mpg. I know 17.0 is the max I can go before I start running into drivability issues ie, won't have enough fuel to run properly. I have ran this by my tuner and he is fine with it as he has done the same thing to his tune for his own car. I can only do it on the ethanol map because the ethanol helps protect against knock and while leaning out the car can make it more prone to knock. Will update soon!

Well the testing of better mpg is going pretty good. One AFR at a time haha. But I also am picking up another set of wheels for the ms3. They are Enkei GTC01's with tires. I want to see if I like them or not. Hoping they are 18x8 +40. The person that has them now isn't sure. But I would like to not rub and I got them for super cheap so its all good.

So now the car has low compression in cylnder #3. :( Its also burning oil after any sort of boost while engine braking. So the car is going down for the season and will get a rebuild over the winter. Details to come as I get them.
But here are some pictures I got the other night.

Little update I guess.
I have been slowly accumulating parts. I have a new intercooler core that I got on the cheap. Its a treadstone tr1035. Also got this sweet valve install and uninstall tool (thanks Jake for discovering it), valve lapper, piston ring install tool, cp-e stage 2 RMM, New intake mani gasket that is 3x as thick at the JBR TIG, a new JBR stage 2 OCC, and a large order from Mazda including: full gasket kit, oil pump, and a few new sprockets.
Sunday I got bored of doing house work and ordered JBR BSD and oil pan baffle, along with Manley H-Beam rods. Just waiting for shipping conformation, already pumped.

I don't have a BT so I'm not welcome there, bro. But keep the updates coming. A lot of your local friends check in on this build through here and not MSF.

Yea it's sad how dead this has become. I think it's time to get another MSP considering how active they still are haha. And it's funny though you go to MSF and it seems almost everyone is banned.

Everyone that doesn't matter is banned. Follow the few simple rules and you won't get banned....

Since Evan wants good updates. I had a pretty eventful few months with the car. First off I built the motor with forged internals and all new gaskets and s***. I used the same 170k miles stock turbo I was using before because I ran out of money before I went to the Tail of the Dragon for Epic NATOR Meat (ENM). Well I broke the motor in and started tuning before I went down and everything was going great. So I went to ENM and had a blast down there. I made it all the way back from the Dragon to Cincinati, Ohio. Then s*** hit the fan, the turbo seized causing an oil blockage in the system which I didn't notice because the turbo is after the oil pressure sensor. That blockage caused my motor to spin #4 rod bearing and the car started knocking. So I had it towed to a local shop to store it until I could make it back down with a truck ad trailer to get it home.

I have taken a chance on just polishing up the crank and throwing new bearings in. Figured it was a chance I wouldn't mind taking as bearings are cheap and it will either hold or it won't. So the engine is all buttoned up and good to go.

I have purchased a new turbo, I bought a precision turbo and engine (PTE) 5858 ball bearing with the 4" ported S compressor housing and full v-band turbine housing. I will be getting all my new fittings for the oil lines for the turbo today in the mail. I do not know what exhaust mani I will get yet. I'm still at a loss on what to get.

During the rebuild last winter I also replaced the coilovers with KW V1 coilovers and got new wheels because I needed new tires on the old ones. I got 17x9 +45 (with a 5mm spacer up front) matte black rpf1's. They are wrapped in 245/40 RE11's. Also the JBR comp. 0.250 rear sway bar was replaced with a Corksport Rear sway bar with billet brackets.

I have the old ko4 out of the car and exhaust mani out. I have replaced a couple coolant lines that I don't need running to the turbo anymore because PTE turbos are only oil cooled.

I have a new hot side piping coming that will run under the engine to clean up the bay a little being made by Mark Gibson who is also my tuner.

Also yesterday (6/5) I picked up another engine to start playing with. The engine has a spun bearing but it came with a bunch of other accessories and parts that I will be selling. I got it for $350 so I am happy with the deal I got!

A couple pictures I'm sure everyone wants to see!

So its been a while since I've graced this thread with an update. The car is back where I store it during the winters as its just easier to work on there. I don't plan on it being there for the rest of the year but between money, waiting on other people, time, and my need to constantly start new projects the car is still in pieces. But onto the update:
A couple things have been changed and I have been adding a few things to the list of things I want done. I'm still waiting on a manifold, getting it for a really good price so I guess its not much of a priority but for the price I will be patient and it gets here when it gets here.
I did get the turbo back (pte 5858 dbb) from pte for repair of a few things. They took 7 weeks but its okay since I don't have all the parts needed anyway. I bought the turbo used on FB for 500 bucks because the po said it ate a coupler. I'm not quiet sure I believe that but w/e all the turbo needed was a couple things. The turbo got a new compressor wheels, freshened up bearings, couple snap rings and labor. Cost me 464 shipped including two shirts for the repair, so all in all I have 964 in a 1700 dollar turbo WHOOOO!
I changed out the clutch to a ClutchMasters twin disk 725 that @Etipp98; had on his car previously. I also changed the throwout bearing and the slave when I put this clutch in.
I also deleted the A/C as I don't drive the car that often and I hated the lines everywhere and the drag it caused the engine. Was easy to do and I put in a dummy pulley in place of the A/C compressor and a new shorter belt from AutoZone.
I have taken it upon myself to try and clean up my engine bay, I have moved the power steering reservoir to in front of the front driver wheel, battery to the trunk, and the coolant reservoir is now a custom made box tucked back behind where the battery used to sit. I have two OCC's that sit in the same spot just on the driver and passenger side frame rails in front of the engine. So a lot less hoses and ugly tanks around the engine bay.
I have installed my new core (TR1235) also from etipp98 and cut the crash bar to make it fit. I did buy the HTP hot side to go with the new turbo and core but have not installed it yet as I can't without the turbo and manifold there. I went through 3 cutoff wheels before I said **** it and called dad to use the chop saw which made short work of the cuts I needed to make. I did have to do a little grinding but nothing too bad and the core fits perfect. I also installed a new grille after cutting out the ugly mustache the gen1 came with. Looks amazing if I do say so myself!
I now have both front seats as Sparco Sprints that are red on Buddy Club sliders and brackets. I'm not a large guy (5'11" 160) so the racing seats fit me much better than the stock seats ever did.
Also since I'm bored waiting for the speed to return I found a set of really dirty rpf1's for sale on craigslist. They are 17x7.5 with 225/50 all season tires. I got them for 300 and they came with genuine Enkei center caps. I wanted something a bit cooler for the dd rather than the pu wheels. I hate buying tires for 18 inch wheels also. I think they look great and will look even better once they have proper sized tires.
PICTARS!
