First post to the forum as a potentially new Mazda 2014 CX-9 Grand Touring owner. I say potential because the CX-9 that I found for sale is what I was looking for, but I found what looks like a powdery white or grey coating all over the four calipers, and the rotors have some rust showing. All the 20" wheels appear to have a dark blemishes closer to the hub.

I don't think that this is normal for a car with 13k miles. My main concern is not the appearance but that this is a sign that there will be a big expensive in the near feature. What do you think? Anyone have this sort of experience? Has it caused any unexpected problems for you? I hope that this is nothing major and I will love driving this car if I do buy it.

By the way, I live in central Florida and the original owner of the car also lives in this area. So I don't know that the weather would have such a negative effective on these parts.

Here are some pictures.

Thanks!

I am now a first time Mazda owner, and feeling good about it. I couldn't wait, and bought the CX-9 GT. Love it so far.

I am going to hypothesis that the previous owner was using a harsh cleaner and started to remove the polish of the wheels. It doesn't look bad, but I'm going to try to take care of it so it doesn't get worse. Any ideas for a do it yourself fix to protect the wheels from further damage to the finish?

Thanks!

I would paint the calipers either a gloss black or gray color, you can buy a caliper paint kit or just use some high temp engine enamel spray paint, it will definitely improve the look of the calipers.

As for the protecting the wheels, I would just keep them clean and don't let brake dust build up on them, you can also wax the wheels on a regular basis with just regular car wax to protect them.

Thanks graphics... I did think about painting the calipers. That should be a quick and cheap fix. I'll try the wax on the wheels. Appreciate the tip!
