I have a GT with factory Rails. I'm looking for crossbars. I've never had a roof rack before, so this is new to me. Will the OEM bars suffice, or are there better but not crazy $$$ alternative options? It's just me & my boyfriend, no kiddo stuff:)

Here's what I anticipate common usage for:
1) Sea Kayak & Gen. Purpose Plastic Kayak (non river) (often 2)
2) Random stuff too big for interior; for house/home projects etc, tie down.
3) Thule like cargo carrier - TBD

Hi

Im new to the forum, but have been doing a lot of web surfing to best find what accessories I might like. I found a cross bar called "WhisperBar" which is a foil shaped cross bar to keep wind noise and resistance to a minimum.

Im not sure how unique or effective, but wanted to mention it. Good luck

I'm looking to get some crossbars myself and this is what I found.
http://www.etrailer.com/roof-2016_Mazda_CX-5.htm?style=&furl=-c1-SR

The factory crossbars only hold up to 100 lbs and I would not trust that to hold 2 kayaks

I'm looking into getting these two

If you want the factory look you can go with this but it's more expensive

I have a Thule aeroblade system being installed on my GX models naked Roof tomorrow.
From what i have found in the Thule manual the gutter mounted clips are only rated to 132 lbs on the cx-5
the skyactiv weight savings may have lightened the roof and thinned out the supports

the oem side rails are rated to 165lbs evenly distributed
the oem cross bars are rated to 100lbs evenly distributed.
The Aeroblade system requires Thule Rapid traverse towers, 53 Aeroblades, and a 1721 Fit kit (weight limit of 132lbs)
