~13.53 @ 105.67mph ~ AP/SRI only~
Hi all, I posted this same exact thread on the other popular Mazda Forum, but I wanted to share my experience at the 1/4 mile track tonight with all of you as well.
I was excited to get a run in this great boost weather, and was able to better my time. My mods are in my sig. I am running Stage 1 93oct v104 LC & FFS , w/ Launch Control set at 3500 RPM. Ambient temp. was about 40* F, and Cecil County Dragway is at about 330' ASL. Because I broke my motor mount last week, I promised myself I would only launch with DSC on, until I can get an upgraded aftermarket mount. I was able to ge the following slip this evening: R/T: .176 60': 2.277 330': 5.950 1/8 mile: 8.880 mph: 84.09 1000': 11.404 1/4 mile: 13.536 mph: 105.67 Overall I think I am pretty satisfied with this time. However, I think I could have improved the launch a little, it did bog a tiny bit down to 2k RPM. It was a funny run too because I was all over the track in 2nd gear. I ended up hitting 5th gear surprisingly, right before the 1/4 trap. This is extremely annoying and awkward to do just 20 feet before the finish line. My second run I bogged the launch bad, and got a 13.758 @ 106.28 mph, which is actually my highest trap speed. I made it an early night because it was too f'n cold. I waited to see a pair of GT-Rs run together, which was sweet btw. One silver and one grey. One shat smoke at the launch and ran 11.3, the other ran 12.2. Attached is a picture of my two time slips, and a picture with the number 328 on my car for proof. Thank you for your interest! Questions/Comments/Concerns?

I've never run on a proper drag strip. Done some autocrossing, but of course that is an entirely different beast. Thanks for sharing your info & pics.

Congrats. With better breathing, these little cars can really do nice work once you get in third gear. It looks like that even with launch control getting 60 ft times down to 2.1's is going to be difficult. That's been my experience too.
Really nice trap speeds, building great power. Looks like you could have taken the win light on the second run if you had left on time. But you were probably not really racing him, just trying to get some good numbers. I think you will have 13.4's maybe 13.3's and 106-107's with just a little better 60 ft, don't you? Is that a stock map AP Stage 1 tune for 93 octane, or have you tweaked it a bit? Thanks for sharing. You have good reason to be proud.

When I get a rear MM, I would probably decrease the LC RPM to 3000, and try that. I have tried 3000 RPM LC as well, and 3500 works better with the way I just ride the clutch w/ DSC on (Builds boost better). I do agree that w/ something like a 2.0 60ft, I could get mabye 13.3 @ 108? People are getting 2.0 and 2.1 on the stock mounts, but I sure have not been able to. I think if I get a rear MM I should have my 13.3 @ 108. This is what my old LS1 Trans Am ran, and is my target time right now lol. That is funny you mention me not trying to race him. I didn't think I had to try lol. I am sorry to say it was a little blue Chevy S-10 WTF??? It is the stock v104 map I am running. My friend w/ a Civic Si was familiar w/ Access Tuner, and he customized the map to have LC and FFS for me. I will probably be there not this comming Friday, but the next. You should come, and if you see me there come say hi . There are are couple Mazdaspeeders every once in a while.

If you can swing it, go for it man! Treat yourself. It is worth the big $$$ because it really feels like it gives an extra 10+ HP.

Thanks guys, I'm not gonna kid, I've tried pretty hard lol. I just counted, I have 20 time slips now. And I probably crumpled up and through out a couple haha. There were definatley some 15s in there. I like the challenge, becuase it indeed is a challenge every time. It is the exact opposite of the automatics I have owned, where you run down the track and it is the same exact number every time. There are so many more variables I need to try to get in order, it makes it more interesting.
Have either of you taken your car to the strip before?

your mph will not increase just because you have a better launch... usually if you improve your launch, your mph will suffer... like if you were to run a 13.3 with lets say a 2.0 60ft. your mph will probably be closer to 103-104ish...

^ That very well could be. I speculate though, that if I get more traction in the gears (not just the launch), and more speed (because DSC would not be cutting ignition timing), that I would also trap higher. Does this make sense? Your probably right, I would most likely get a lower et, but lower trap speed.
In reality though, I will probably at least need a rear mm, if not DRs, or another power mod to get 13.3 @ 108. I'm not stopping until I get that slip though! Then my g/f will stop saying my old Trans Am would smoke my Zoomy lol.
