Hey everyone I'm fairly new to the forum and drive a 12 MZ5 GT. I am really wanting to get a new set of wheels for the 5 but I don't have much experience with wheel sizes and ets and all that good stuff. I'm on stock suspension and plan to stay that way for the near future so what is the least offset I could run with no rubbing? I see most of you stay over +45, is that the least you can run. I was really wanting to run something like a 17x9 +20 but after reading 15 pages that doesn't seem possible!
Looking to fit some wheels for snow tires and I ran into problems. Apparently, while 15" rims fit some models of the Mazda5 they won't fit over the brake calipers of my 09 Grand Touring Ed. Can I easily fit 16" or do I need to stay 17"?
I'm suspecting it depends on the individual wheels. Mazda5s can still be had stock with 16" wheels, but when I tried fitting a set of 16s from an older car ('98 Crown Victoria ... and yes, I know a zero-offset wheel would stick way out of the wheel arches), I had huge caliper clearance issues. I'd be pretty interested to scare up a 15" wheel that would fit.
Centre spigot size
This is a tricky one. There are two types of axle/wheel design: hub-centric and lug-centric.
For hub-centric designs, the wheel is centred using the spigot before the wheel nuts or lug bolts are tightened. In this design the spigot normally sticks out from the axle of the car which is why it can be used to centre the wheel beforehand. With aftermarket alloy wheels, the spigot hole is often larger than the spigot on the car which is why you need a spigot-locating or hub-centric ring. This is a plastic or metal doughnut that matches the outside diameter of the wheel's spigot hole and the inside diameter of the axle spigot, and is used to ensure a snug fit between the two whilst centring the wheel.
For lug-centric designs, the wheel is centred during the process of tightening the lug nuts, often because the axle spigot does not stick out (either at all, or far enough) to be any use in centring the wheel.
Hi everyone. im new here. I just bought a mazda5, and want new rims. Has anyone here tried to put on some 19" wheels? is It possible? i was thinking 7.5x19 +50? what du you guys think?
Very nicely done tuanies and a great pic too! Consider a pair of side skirts, makes a huge "visual" difference, esp if you are lowered. I'm without one and when I actually look and compare the sides, it is an eye sore. Luckily (maybe not) it is on the other side so out of sight, out of mind .DSCF0829_HDR-Edit by tuanies, on Flickr
