The link below will take you to a step by step image gallery of my mini camping/storage trailer build. I'm towing this with my 2012 Mazda5. I started with a harbor freight frame measuring 40-1/2" x 48". It has 12" wheels and is rated for 1100 lbs. This is a good fit for the Mazda5 which has about 1300 lbs cargo/towing capability, based on the difference between curb weight and GVWR. I've taken the trailer out a couple times so far this spring, lightly loaded, and it pulls very nicely. Now I'm even more excited for camping season.

Nice plan. I want to build a tear drop to pull behind my 2010. It already has the hitch, now I just need to build the trailer.

Very nice! What was your total cost?

Please note, these are general estimates

$250 for frame, including shipping
$60 for tubular steel for longer tongue
$120 for MDO plywood
$150 for various hardware, fasteners, handles, and hinges
$100 for gas springs and brackets
$50 for paint
$50 for accessories like mud flaps, trailer jack

Grand total $700 - $800

Thats a very well thought out, and constructed trailer kudos to you sir. Do you have any trouble withe trailer weaving/hunting on the highway with the long tongue?

Number seems high at first go, but not bad once you add it up line by line. :D

Shouldn't a longer tongue wag less?
