if you run gps sw and it reads you location then it should not be a big deal to wire external antenna. But answer is not clear if sw would receive data or not. And this is the key question.

The GPS hardware is installed. The chipset is referenced quite a few times in the spec of this unit and in the users manual. The only GPS hardware that was marked as optional is the external antenna port.

yup all you need is an external antenna (vtakk pointed out that you need to solder it in), and GPS software (one that is compatable with windows CE 5.0) loaded on an SD card. The SD card with software will run you about $100.
