Theirs really only one difference. If u get an ap u can still get the car prof. tuned but it has to be by a cobb tuner. If you get a standback u can get it prof tuned by anyone. And ill tell u right now that the best tuners are not cobbtuners. U dont see ams or dave from buscher using cobb. Plus it takes forever to tune with cobb cause first u gotta flash the ap then u gotta flash the car nd dynotime is $.. Plus you saw the video. the standback made 40 more whp than the ap with the same mods.

The big difference is Standback is a piggy back intercepting the signal and the AP is a flash of the ECU itself. Anyone can tune the AP with ATR, professional or not.

As far as the video - it was fun, but pointless. Every variable of the Cobb AP is tunable with ATR. They used a tune made by Christian with Cobb. Ok - obviously he was more conservative than Laloosh was with the Standback tune. IMO it was not an unbiased apples to apples comparison.

It's in the tune, not the device used to create the tune. I hate the concept of piggy backs but I know they work for many. If there were better custom tuners using one product or the other that would certainly make me consider it But I'm still running mediocre OTS tunes.

Regarding AMS, they will tune any piggyback and a long list of other products including the AP so you are wrong.
Check the link:

Buschur Racing...another EVO tuner (AMS and Buschur are irrelevent to Mazda don't you think?)
They flash the ECU themselves, they aren't using a piggy back like CPE. Really pointless to bring up either of these companies in the discussion.

No offense to CPE, but I don't think they are in the same league as AMS or Buschur.

their not. not even close. but i dnt think cobb is either. but thats besides the point. u say any1 can tune with cobb. but when i went to get tuned, i couldnt go to the good suby and evo guys because they dnt deal with cobb. I had to go to a cobb tuner.

I don't know about Buschur but AMS will tune with the Cobb AP on a couple of different cars, but if they'll tune the MS3 is another question

And if you use the ATR software, you can have anyone tune it that is willing.
