    Make or break transmission

I'm on the fence here concerning the quality of the car. In the recent SCC magazine there was talk of MSP being detuned due to the not so strong trayning.

I don't want a car that can't take modification or one that will break. There's been some chatter concerning people's experience with QA of the MP3s too. I also don't want to ditch my MSP deposit because I'm paranoid either. Good thing it's fully refundable.

For a few K more I can get a WRX or go for broke and grab a used S2K. The quality of these cars seem a bit stonger for strength and mods. Do I wanna drop $20 plus K on a car that won't last? I'm going to see what the MP3 lists have to say too.

the G25M-R transmission can take up to 300-400 ft lbs of torque before it explodes. Civic, sentra, and may other economy cars are the same way. this whole "mazda protege transmissions sucks" myth is just that, a MYTH. People who abuse the transmission are going to have problems, nuff said.

Any car will have tranny issues if the person driving it doesn't know how to drive. I have yet to have any grinding, rubbing, stroking, purring or whatever problems with my MP3 tranny. The tranny thing is the same with the WRX crowd because some former Civic owners who now own WRX's think that they can do high RPM clutch drops all the time and that just is not so for an AWD drivetrain. I've also heard about people having issues with the S2000 driveshaft snapping under, but that's probably BS.

I say stick with the MSP, you'll be satisfied once those damn things get here. This waiting period is kinda like waiting for you girlfriend to let you take her virginity. Before you got in the relationship she was all talk, but now, 3 months later you're still waiting.

no troubles here with my tranny. Not the slightest hint of a problem. I've been driving standards since I was 16. Only ever owned sticks.

My only grip with the mp3, is the infamous clunk. Other then that, I would easily rate this car as an equal in quality to the honda I traded in for it. I've owned 8 honda's. I'm very impressed with the MP3 so far.

If you don't know how to drive a stick, you will break it. If you abuse a stick.....you will break it. It doesn't take much

What's this "clunk"? Could you describe it? Is it it something to be concerned with and if so, can it be fixed?

search for the clunk in the mp3 section. I'm thinking the msp won't have it as it has newer upgraded bushings.....I hope.

Thanks newf. I checked out a few stings on your clunk-sqweak/bushing-mazda problem. That stinks big time. Sorry you're going through all that. I'm still willing to take a chance on a MSP though. Hopefully the new bushing problem will be an improvement. My concern is more of your battle with Mazda of CA though. It sounds like they need to work on their corporate ethics.
