Interesting Features now available

:
2017 CX5 AWD Touring
The 2017 CX9 Signature comes with the following:

  • Power Auto Lift gate
  • Grille LED Lighting
  • True HUD
  • 53 LBS of sound deadening material
  • acoustic glass
  • 2.5L Turbo

Of course this is at $45k pricetag. I wonder if these features will come to the CX5?

On the Ford Escape, the power lift gate precludes installing a trailer hitch (or at least it did when they first came out). Wonder if you can have both on the new CX-9?

Only one of interest to me from that list is the 2.5T, and a 9 speed auto would be useful, how many gears does the cx-9 have?

It has a 6-speed. With 310lb of torque on tap, it doesn't really need any more gears, to be honest. Insta-torque, no waiting for downshifting.

My cx-5 has the same torque, it could definatly use at least one more gear for motorway driving.
What are the revs at 70mpg?

I understand its how its geared which is why i asked the question.
My cx5 is around 35mph per 1000 rpm, so max torque around 70mph our legal limit, but i know the engine has plenty of pull below that, so it would easily manage another gear.

The new tiguan has 7 speed with around the same power.

According to Mazda USA:

2016 Mazda CX-5
Gear Ratios :)1) - Manual Transmission (SkyActiv-G 2.0L) / Automatic Transmission (SkyActiv-G 2.5L)
1st - 3.700 / 3.552
2nd - 1.947 / 2.022
3rd - 1.300 / 1.452
4th - 1.029 / 1.000
5th - 0.837 / 0.708
6th - 0.680 / 0.599
Reverse - 3.724 / 3.893
Final Drive - 4.705 / 4.325 (FWD), 4.624 (AWD)

With OEM Toyo A23 225/55R19 tires on GT, it's 720 revolutions per mile. So driving at 70 mph it's 2,176 / 2,327 rpm for CX-5 2.5L AT FWD / AWD GT in 6th gear. Now I finally realized part of reason why CX-5 AWD suffers huge fuel economy drop than the FWD on the highway because it revs higher at the same speed!

2016 Mazda CX-9:
Gear Ratios :)1) - Automatic Transmission
1st - 3.487
2nd - 1.992
3rd - 1.449
4th - 1.000
5th - 0.707
6th - 0.600
Reverse - 3.990
Final Drive - 4.411

With OEM Falken ZIEX CT50 A/S 255/50R20 tires, it's 694 revolutions per mile. So driving at 70 mph it's 2,143 rpm for the CX-9 Signature AWD in 6th gear, about the same rpm as CX-5 FWD.

Of course you have SkyActiv-D 2.2L diesel and your gear ratios could be different. I also prefer more than 6 gears if possible.

THAT! makes sense! I was wondering how such an unobtrusive AWD sucked so hard at the fuel pump, and that makes sense! Mazda rose a few points in my book due to this post, ty! (it also explains what the 0-60 with the AWD is similar/the same, even when they both hook, and the AWD weighs more).

Expect some of these features to trickle down to the CX-5 and Mazda 6 especially if they have their own signature series. The Mazda 6 already had the LED grilles as an option btw.

In one of the Mazda engineer videos they explained the lack of a huge sunroof for adding extra weight up high, throwing off the center of gravity. Of course it can be done, but it seems the engineers decided not to. Besides it would have negated a lot of the weight savings.

Yep I'm getting an FPace if I'm going into that range.
Same here, looking for a car for my wife and wanting something to pull a boat eventually, for 45K the F-Pace beats the CX-9 across the board.

That is a nice looking car! But I'm going through building one and there are still many basic things you have to buy in an extra package. For instance heated seats, are in a $1400 package. Of course it comes with some other nicer things but just to get heated seats, you have to spend more. LED headlights, are part of a $1900 package. Standard on the CX-9.

My point I'm making here is the Touring CX9 starts at $35000. And it comes with many more high tech features STANDARD than the FPace. But that's usually the issues with luxury vehicles anyway. They still sell vehicles with halogen headlights. No luxury car should be equipped with halogen headlights imo.

I will say though, the FPace is a stunning car. If I could load that up and take one, I would in a heart beat.

New Jaguar F-Pace look nice and powerful. But it's a 5-seater like CX-5 and is not a 3-row CUV like Mazda CX-9. They're in the different category.

LOL
Build a BMW. When I was considering an M3 (E92), they retailed for around $57k...then I added the things I want (and I'm a minimalist type...) and it stickered at 70k. For grins, I decked one out, and I believe it hit within a few thousand of 6 figures.
