What audio devices interface with the Mazda3?

I've been using an older iPod classic to play music and especially podcasts through my Mazda3 2015 Touring, but it recently gave up the ghost. I know I could just use a USB stick, but does the stock (non-Bose) system recognize any devices aside from the iPod over a USB cable?

I recognize I could use Bluetooth from any phone, but I like using a USB cable for battery reasons and such. I also do realize that this is an embarassment of options compared to the fairly recent bad old days of tape or FM adapters.

I believe it supports any MTP device, which is pretty much any modern Android smartphone.
