Blown radiator, head, head gasket

Bitterly disappointed and upset.

My Mazda CX-5 diesel 2012, 117,000kms has apparently blown a head/head gasket after repair of radiator. 4 months out of warranty.

No indication to driver being by alarm, smell, smoke/steam, gauge etc. diagnosis by two separate mechanics, including Mazda dealer.

Independent mechanic believes head faulty and caused radiator issues.

Are there are other CX-5 owners out there who have suffered the same fate?

Possibly some air trapped in head after radiator repair caused a hot spot in head causing the head gasket failure.

I agree with above, most likely the system was not bleed properly. If the head is indeed toast, it probably cracked from being ran so hot.

How was it confirmed head gasket blown? Did they do a leak down test? Compression test? Coolant test using chemicals?

Thank you for your response, however I have been assured that the radiator was bled of all air, pressure tested etc. Mechanic is known to us with our other vehicles having been serviced by him with outstanding history. I doubt this is his issue.

Thank you for your response. The head was tested by a specialist and again by Mazda themselves. Until they pull the engine apart, they will not know whether it is the gasket or the head itself.

So the great news is, Mazda are replacing my engine, no cost to me. Such fantastic customer service and I feel like I've be rewarded for being loyal Mazda customer. Very very impressed. Even got a brand new car just registered for me to drive until my cars repaired.

For those of you who are interested, the initial radiator was never disposed of and was tested as working perfectly. Was never a radiator issue.

After much testing, still don't know the issue so hence the engine being replaced.

Good on you Mazda. Setting the standards for true customer service.

That's awesome! Glad everything turned out in your favor!

From reading some threads on here, it seems like the Mazda diesels are not as reliable as their gas counterparts. Since we do not have any Mazda diesel engines currently in the US market, is this true? that the diesels have been known to have reliability issues?
