03 LX auto, roll damper broken

I'm currently having a bit of an issue with things breaking on my car. I've had to pull the engine because of a spun rod bearing and every step along the way leads to yet another part I have to fix or replace (the under body is rusted pretty fierce in some spots).

To the point, the factory roll damper is damaged and I really don't want to pay $80 (dealer) for a new one. Instead, I was looking at the shock-absorber style dampers used on tuned cars. Does anyone have experience or knowledge using/installing one of these? I tried to search the forums for info, but I'm either blind or there isn't any.

Side note->Since I have the engine pulled and being machined and rebuilt, should I do the same to the tranny as a preventative? There's 150k miles on it and most likely factory judging by all the other parts. I am doing the torque converter cause it's only $95, just on the fence to do all the work with the tranny.

Thanks guys!
