I just bought two replacement wheel arches/wells from eBay to replace the horrible, rusted ones on my 2002 Protege5. Has anyone used these before and how much should the metal overlap? This is galvanized steel too, so should I grind the edges and apply weld through primer first? I have a plasma torch, MIG and inverter TIG welding machines but not much TIG welding experience.

I have repleced front clip on a 2001 es sedan. Factory used spot welds so we did the same. Ended up coming out great. I adsume your talking about the rear quarter panel? Seean alot of those rusted out on the p5's. I think spot welds would be faster and easier to hide. Dont know a whole lot about bodywork though
